About us

Introducing Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance. New Name. Eternal Mission. For 128 years, Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance has connected people with wildlife. From our early years with just a few Colorado species to the 2,500+ animals thriving in our care today, we have cultivated a welcoming gateway to the wonders of the natural world. Today, our mission, Inspiring Communities to Save Wildlife for Future Generations, has never been more critical. This new name and logo reflect a renewed purpose: to continue delivering exceptional experiences on our historic campus, while doubling down on our commitment to conservation in Colorado and worldwide. #SavingWildlifeTogether

  • Splish, splash, our spotted hyenas love taking baths! Ngozi, Kelele and Tavi always enjoy a cool bubble bath or refreshing dip in the pool when the weather warms up. These fun bubble baths also serve as enrichment, as hyenas like to cache things in water and come back to them later. Our Animal Care staff hides exciting items for the clan to find and ups the challenge level by making the items hard to see with bubbles. Whenever the suds come out, our hyenas get extra excited to play! Treat our hyenas to a sudsy spa day! 🫧 Donate now: https://lnkd.in/eM_S7zF9

  • 🐍 Happy #WorldSnakeDay! At Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance, we proudly care for around 30 species of venomous snakes, with over 100 unique individuals each showcasing their own personalities. Our expert animal care team is specially trained to work with these fascinating reptiles, ensuring the safety of both humans and snakes through various protective measures. Snakes face numerous threats such as habitat loss, climate change, and disease. However, one of the biggest challenges they face is the negative attitudes many people have towards them. Snakes play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance by controlling prey populations, and their venom has significant medicinal benefits. As Animal Care Specialist Tim says, “Snakes do far more good than harm for humans.” So, even if snakes might seem scary, remember their vital contributions to our environment and medicine. Let’s show them the respect and support they deserve! #SnakeConservation #DenverZooConservationAlliance

  • Meet Opal and Ruby, our newest Endangered Grevy’s zebra girls! Twenty-year-old Opal and Ruby moved to Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance earlier this year to join Topaz and Dusty the ostrich. If you squint a little, it looks like Ruby has a tiny white heart on her chest, Opal sports oblong white spots, and Topaz flaunts a sleek black stripe. Ruby is our brave leader, already taking treats from her amazing Animal Care team, but sometimes she waits for Topaz to show it's safe. These girls are settling in well and are lovely additions to our herd! 🖤 🤍 Have you seen our latest zebra-inspired collab shirt with BE A GOOD PERSON? This special collab spreads positivity through fashion to inspire, uplift and motivate our community with a universal message of goodness. Just two good, local brands joining forces to Save Wildlife Together! Get the goods: https://lnkd.in/efjG63aQ

  • Here’s a fin-tastic care story from Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance in honor of Shark Week and Shark Awareness Day! 🦈 Moon is an epaulette shark at Stingray Cove™ who was observed by his Animal Care Specialists occasionally biting his tail. Since this behavior in sharks could indicate pain or an injury, he was evaluated by our Veterinary Medicine team. They performed a CT scan and ultrasound to evaluate his spine and internal structures for any cause of the behavior. Luckily for Moon, no obvious lesions were found, and he has responded swimmingly to a short course of treatment with pain medications. It's been over two months since Moon's dedicated care team has observed the tail biting behavior and they report he's doing well in his Stingray Cove home! All our clinical veterinarians are Board Certified Specialists in Zoological Medicine™, with expertise in zoo, wildlife, and aquatic animals. Additionally, our Senior Director of Animal Health, Dr. Jimmy Johnson, has a special interest in aquatic species, particularly sharks, and is also a Certified Aquatic Veterinarian! Whether it’s an epaulette shark or an Asian elephant, our amazing veterinarians and registered veterinary technicians are available 24/7 to provide expert care to every animal that calls DZCA home! 🦈 Photo Credit: Programs Specialist Rachel O. and Dr. Jimmy Johnson #DenverZooConservationAlliance #SavingWildlifeTogether #SharkWeek #SharkAwarenessDay
