#OTD in U.S. Navy History: July 25, 1866: Admiral David G. Farragut Becomes the First Admiral in the U.S. Navy. On this day in 1866, David Glasgow Farragut was promoted to the rank of Admiral, becoming the first person to hold this title in the U.S. Navy. Farragut's promotion came after his exemplary service during the Civil War, particularly noted for his decisive victories in the capture of New Orleans and the Battle of Mobile Bay. His famous command, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" during the Battle of Mobile Bay, remains a celebrated part of Navy lore. #NavyHistory #MaritimeHistory #AmericanHistory #Admiral #NavyLeague
