Researchers from Lingang Laboratory, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Shanghai Clinical Research Center for Brain Science and Brain-Inspired Intelligence recently published a study showcasing the power of using both mouse and non-human primate models to study brain rhythm characteristics associated with circadian clock 🕐disturbance and explore potential biomarkers for connecting circadian dysregulation, sleep disorders, and psychiatric diseases. Leveraging the Data Sciences International PhysioTel Digital and PhysioTel HD telemetry to measure EEG, EMG, core body temperature, and locomotor activity and NeuroScore sleep scoring software; the team compared sleep and EEG patterns of BMAL1-deficient mouse and NHP models through standard sleep analysis, spectrogram, and EEG band power assessment.🐁💤 The results indicate that sleep and neuropsychiatric disorders were associated with the dysregulation of high-frequency neural activities. Although we know the use of e-cigarettes can negatively impact pulmonary function, the effects of synthetic menthol-like cooling agents commonly used to create a less harsh, bitter taste have not been widely explored. 🤔 Collaborators from Florida International University and University of Rochester Medical Center set out to evaluate the effect of synthetic cooling agent WS-23. Leveraging the Data Sciences International E-Cigarette, Vape, and Tobacco (EVT) Generator to deliver e-cigarette aerosols to primary airway epithelial cells and compared the responses to those induced by control aerosols, the study concluded that WS-23 and nicotine aerosols modulate airway epithelial cell responses and cause goblet cell hyperplasia, which could affect airway physiology and sensitivity to respiratory diseases. 🫁🚬 #ScienceFeature #EVT #smoking #ecig #vape #tobacco #researchscience #respiratoryresearch Learn more about our BUXCO smoke generator and delivery systems here: https://lnkd.in/dCcxNQc
