Food that is canned is food that isn’t wasted. Approximately 133 billion pounds of food is wasted in the United States every year according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That is roughly one-third of our annual food supply. When food is wasted, the energy, labor, water, land and other inputs used to produce the food is also lost. Steel food cans help to minimize food loss by extending the shelf life of food, locking in freshness, and protecting food without the need for refrigeration.
