An ensemble of long-serving, global leaders in international development and humanitarian assistance

About us

Corus International is an ensemble of long-serving, global leaders in international development and humanitarian assistance committed to ending poverty and building healthy communities across Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Africa. Made up of several non-profit and for-profit organizations – Lutheran World Relief, IMA World Health, CGA Technologies, Ground Up Investing, and Farmers Market Brands – the Corus family's global networks expand wide and our local partnerships run deep. Alongside communities and local partners in fragile settings, Corus' dedicated experts across the family of organizations integrate disciplines, approaches and resources to overcome global health challenges, develop productive and stable economies, improve resilience in the face of climate change, and respond to natural disasters and humanitarian crises. With the support of our family's diverse set of partners and funding – from multi- and bilateral institutions and foundations to the private sector and individuals – we invest in solutions that are innovative, scalable, holistic and move the needle towards transformational change. Our dedicated experts around the globe work together to bring life-saving aid and long-term hope to even the most fragile corners of the world and in the most challenging of circumstances. We connect disciplines, approaches and people because we know that the more collaboration we can efficiently achieve, the wider, more systemic impact we can create. It’s belief and action, in harmony.

Like most in her in small village in Nepal, Suman Chaudhary (photo 1) was raised to believe a woman’s place is in the home. She was too shy to even speak to strangers, preferring household chores over public errands. But recently, she found herself at the forefront of a rescue effort when a neighbor became trapped by floodwaters. Several years ago, through Corus organization Lutheran World Relief, Suman became involved in the local Community Disaster Management Committee. These committees equip people in flood-prone areas to alert each other about rising waters, conduct search and rescue efforts, and protect their families, livestock and crops from dangerous floods. Another benefit of the committee is the substantial boost in confidence women have experienced through their participation. They are now significantly more involved in local leadership and aren't afraid to use their voices. Suman said she was the only person around when one of her neighbors, who had crossed the river to gather grass for her cattle, got caught in a flash flood. "I was afraid to be the one responsible for the rescue,” she recalls. However, she quickly remembered her training and took action to grab a rope and life preserver. "I called out for help, and a man who lived nearby came. Together we brought the woman to safety.” On World Drowning Prevention Day, Suman and fellow committee member Sita Chaudhary (photo 2) show some of the supplies they keep close by in case of flooding. #WorldDrowningPrevention #DisasterRiskReduction #DRR #Nepal #India #FloodPrevention #ClimateResilience

Improving maternal, newborn and child health is a pressing issue in Nepal. Despite progress, critical issues in health care access and quality keep maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality rates high. The Baal Swasthya project, a collaboration of Corus organizations Lutheran World Relief and IMA World Health, is transforming health outcomes by reducing barriers and enhancing health services. Innovative components of the project include the E-MOTIVE intervention package and the non-pneumatic antishock garment (NASG) to address postpartum hemorrhage, a leading cause of maternal mortality. By partnering with the Nepal Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (NESOG), Baal Swasthya has strengthened the capacity of health care workers to implement the E-MOTIVE package and utilize the NASG in clinical settings. Learn more about how the project is making a difference and contributing to positive MNCH outcomes in Nepal here: https://bit.ly/3SjeNHb Pictured: Nurse Puspa Oli practices using the NASG during project training. #Nepal #HealthCare #HealthSystems #HealthSystemStrengthening #CapacityStrengthening #EMOTIVE #NASG #MaternalHealth #MaternalNewbornChildHealth #MNCH

🍫 Happy World Chocolate Day! Have you heard of “bean to bar” chocolate? This special process starts with raw cacao beans, giving the chocolate maker more control over the quality of their final product. Well, the amazing Qori Warmi (“Women of Gold”) cooperative in Peru start their chocolate-making process even earlier: from the seeds that grow into cacao trees. In 2018, Corus organization Lutheran World Relief helped to establish Qori Warmi to promote cacao production in the VRAEM region of Peru, increase women’s incomes and cultivate healthier futures for their families. "Before Qori Warmi, we did not ferment cacao correctly," says member Daria Hinostroza Prado. "The middlemen would come, look at our cacao and say the quality was not good, and they would have control over setting the price. Now they pay us the price that we demand." Qori Warmi’s chocolate company, Tsinane, has consistently won awards at international chocolate competitions since it was established. As recently as 2023, they took home a gold medal at the prestigious Salon du Chocolat in Paris. Learn more about how these strong cacao farmers are transforming their communities in Peru! https://lnkd.in/gN7KWPvw #WorldChocolateDay #chocolateday #cocoa #cacao #chocolate #peru #cooperatives #womenleaders #agriculture
