As the 2024 legislative session comes to an end, Conservation Colorado is proud to celebrate the bills we supported that solidified Colorado’s position as a national leader in environmental protection. These crucial environmental victories were achieved as Conservation Colorado and allies from across the state neutralized oil and gas industry ballot measures that threatened Colorado’s climate progress. Conservation Colorado along with our partners, support and urge legislators to vote YES on new bills that cut harmful pollution. Legislators will soon introduce two bills aimed at improving Colorado’s air quality and public health with support from a coalition of environmental and community groups that have for years championed meaningful action to address the state’s severe ozone pollution crisis. The coalition urges lawmakers to move quickly to ensure passage of the new legislation. This legislation will avoid harmful ballot measures, improve air quality and public health, support disproportionately impacted communities, remediate wells, and increase funding for transit and public lands. The coalition worked with the governor, legislative leadership, and bill sponsors to avoid potentially devastating ballot measures from the oil and gas industry that could have rolled back a decade of climate progress in Colorado. Along with our allies, we have filed ballot language to protect Colorado’s progress on climate change, renewable energy, and clean air and to hold oil and gas corporations accountable. These measures were filed in direct response to Chevron, Occidental, other multinational oil and gas corporations, and right-wing organization Advance Colorado moving forward seven different ballot measures that would protect their profits at the expense of Coloradans’ pocketbooks and our environment. “From our perspective, the oil and gas industry and their allies have filed seven measures that could be really devastating to our climate and clean energy progress,” Jessica Goad said. “And they were doing that as late as last week. We had no choice but to use every tool available to us, including filing these measures here today.” #noclimaterollback #climateprogress

Thank you to everyone who attended Conservation Colorado’s 2024 Lobby Day yesterday! 🌍💙 We spent the day learning, building community and speaking to state lawmakers about key environmental issues at the Colorado state Capitol. Members of communities across Colorado came to Denver to share their lived experiences face-to-face with their legislators, emphasizing the urgency of addressing ozone pollution, building affordable and energy-efficient homes near public transit, and restoring clean water protections to our state’s streams and wetlands. — ¡Gracias a todos los que asistieron ayer al Día de Abogacía de Conservation Colorado 2024! 🌍💙 Pasamos el día aprendiendo y hablando con legisladores estatales sobre temas ambientales en el Capitolio del estado de Colorado. Miembros de comunidades de todo Colorado vinieron a Denver para compartir sus experiencias vividas cara a cara con sus legisladores, enfatizando la urgencia de abordar la contaminación por ozono, construir viviendas accesibles y energéticamente eficientes cerca del transporte público, y restaurar las protecciones de agua en los arroyos y humedales de nuestro estado.

Yesterday, we were at the Protégete Lobby Day! 💼🌟 Where our comunidad lobbied for greener and more affordable housing options. 🌎🏠 We talked with our legislators, so they support the land use reforms that prioritize greener and more affordable housing options, better connected to transportation to protect our open spaces, conserve resources and reduce pollution.
