✨ Partner Spotlight ✨ “We use data science for justice...” --Megan Price, Executive Director of HRDAG Human Rights Data Analysis Group is a global organization that works at the intersection of data, community, and hope to promote accountability for human rights violations. In partnering with local and international human rights groups, HRDAG brings both technical expertise and a listening-first approach to its work finding new ways to tell stories through data. HRDAG has called Community Partners “home” for more than 10 years and is just one example of how our fiscal sponsor partners are working on the most pressing issues of our time. This historic green infrastructure investment project is funded by a $35 million grant from the California Strategic Growth Council’s Transformative Climate Communities Program. It was a gathering of our comunidad… Community Partners President & CEO Alicia Lara, MPH and VP of Fiscal Sponsorship and Capacity Building Lupe Solorio recently attended the 2024 Hispanics in Philanthropy Conference – Corazon y Poder: Unleashing Our Power. The gathering brought together trustees, foundation staff, corporate, and nonprofit leaders working to “reimagine philanthropy” to build an equitable and more just future for all. Congratulations to our partners at the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA) for being recognized with a 2024 National Association of Counties Achievement Award, which spotlights innovative, outstanding County government programs that strengthen services for residents. This prestigious national award honors the County’s Childcare Provider Recovery Grant Program, a multi-year cross-sector collaboration that assists licensed childcare providers located in areas most severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Community Partners is proud to support such critical efforts that help communities heal and thrive. Our role in designing and managing the grants program for this initiative goes far beyond disbursing funds. It’s also been an opportunity to advance trust-based, equity-centered approaches that expand access to resources. From language justice practices to additional supports for applicants, we leverage our intermediary role to remove barriers and accelerate solutions. Thank you to our LA County partners including Carolina Romo, Craig Woods, Madison White, and Sharon Murphy, Ph.D., as well as Community Partners team members Phyllis Owens, Thomas Yee, Preston Mills, Stephanie Nitahara, Tammie Newsome, and Priscilla Romero. Juneteenth Freedom Day is a day to celebrate and reflect. As we commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S. on this day, we also affirm our commitment to racial equity and unconditional freedom every day. That’s why Community Partners supports the Black Equity Collective and their Open Letter to Philanthropy, which calls on philanthropy to “keep its commitments to racial justice and make the eradication of anti-Blackness the new funding standard.” We also lift up the impact, tenacity, and love of the Black-led and allied organizations we partner with through our fiscal sponsorship, intermediary work, and advocacy efforts. We must continue to work together to address harmful systems and support new solutions that advance more equitable, thriving, and inclusive communities. What does it look like to center equity, racial justice, and joy? Yesterday Community Partners CEO Alicia Lara and VP of Intermediary & Strategic Partnerships Phyllis Owens attended the Black Equity Collective’s 3rd annual Equity & Justice Symposium. The day brought together 145 Black-led organizations, funders, and partners to explore the courage and action needed to strengthen – and permanently support – thriving Black communities. Highlights included powerful keynotes delivered by Joanna Jackson and California State Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, plus connecting with partners like Jaden Fields and symposium panelist Amita Swadhin, MPA from Mirror Memoirs. At Community Partners, we envision an equitable, thriving, and inclusive society. That vision cannot be realized unless it includes racial funding equity. We are proud to take part in gatherings like these that serve as a safe and courageous space for the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors to collaborate and learn. With gratitude to Kaci Y. Community Partners is excited to sponsor and take part in Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO)'s 2024 National Conference next week in Los Angeles, where grantmakers and other practitioners will explore equity-centered and community-driven grantmaking practices.    We’ll be hosting a community building session (Monday 5/20 at 4:30pm) led by Los Angeles artists Mame Nene and Cesar Castro. Both are grantees of the CA Creative Corps Fellowship that awards artists and culture bearers working at the intersections of social change.    The fellowship, which is supported by the California Arts Council and administered by Community Partners, is just one example of how we help funders and community leaders collaborate in new ways to advance equity and impact.
