  • For Family Engagement Friday, we’re highlighting Moffat Consolidated School District's efforts to strengthen their school and family partnerships. Last fall, parents, families, students, and educators came together to create homemade blankets to use during the winter holiday season. Attendees said that making a blanket as a family was a meaningful bonding experience for them and the school staff. While they worked together cutting, tying, and measuring out their blankets, the Moffat community built a new holiday tradition!

  • It's What's Up Wednesday, and we're highlighting how educators and school leaders at Durango School District 9-R are preparing students for the workforce. Commissioner of Education Susana Cordova spoke with Durango Superintendent Karen Cheser about the district's Portrait of a Graduate, a shared vision of the skills and dispositions students should develop by the time they graduate. This guiding principle was developed collaboratively by community members, business leaders, teachers and students.

  • It's Teacher Tuesday, and we're featuring Pueblo City Schools District 60 teacher Amy McGee! Amy is an elementary educator at Fountain International Magnet School. When asked what the best part of teaching, Amy said: “I love building relationships with students who are not so quick to open up. I also love seeing those "light bulb" moments when a concept finally makes sense to a student.” Amy says she became a teacher because she loves the students; "so many of them need love and compassion from a positive role model and it fills my heart to hold that place for them." In her free time, Amy loves to read, go for runs and walks, and hang out with her family and friends.

  • Our Family School Community Partnerships team hosted its annual District Leaders Retreat in May with more than 100 participants from schools and districts around the state. The retreat provided opportunities for educators and leaders to learn about best practices in strengthening school and family partnerships. When families and schools work together, we see increased student attendance and graduation rates. We talked to leaders from School District 49 and Englewood Schools about how attending the conference has helped them serve students and families.
