  • Volunteering as a workplace, organization or group is a great way to team-build and give back to your community! We are seeking workplaces and organizations to volunteer with us during our recycled oyster reef build this September. Groups can email volunteers@crcl.org for more information. Join the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana at Grand Bayou Indian Village to build a reef using oyster shells recycled by New Orleans restaurants! This reef in Plaquemines Parish will provide habitat for new oysters and other wildlife and it will protect the shoreline from erosion. 🔗 Register today https://lnkd.in/gXVjUAdm Weekend 1: 🦪Thursday, September 12 🦪Friday, September 13 🦪Saturday, September 14 Weekend 2: 🦪Thursday, September 19 🦪Friday, September 20 🦪Saturday, September 21 Pictured are: Team Rubicon, City of New Orleans Health Department, Mid City Rotary Club and Serve Louisiana AmeriCorps

  • This summer our Oyster Shell Recycling Program welcomed Isaiah Black, an intern from Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe. Isaiah acted as a liaison between CRCL and PACIT, helping to organize for future projects and build tribe capacity. He also joined the OSRP for reef monitoring trips, preparation for the upcoming reef build this fall and other projects. Thank you to Isaiah for all your hard work this summer. And special thanks to Restore America's Estuaries and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for their support on this partnership!

  • LutheranHANDS joined us again this year to help move recycled oyster shell bags to our super sacks, which will be transported down to our upcoming reef build along the coast! They also enlisted their friends at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) to join, who graciously donated to CRCL for every volunteer who joined us. Over three days, 380 volunteers came to Restoration HQ and helped pack our super sacks with 200 tons of oyster shell (that's an entire oyster reef!). As our Coastal Adventures Program senior coordinator, Sofia Giordano, says, "many hands make light work!" This group made the work so light they were also able to help out in our native plant nursery and with some HQ maintenance work. ELCA was in town for a conference, after which they organized a huge giveaway of furniture and supplies used for it, benefitting many local organizations and nonprofits. We're already using our new green picnic tables in the shade for volunteers! Huge thank you to ELCA and Lutheranhands for traveling from across the country to help the OSRP and many more in our community this summer!
