Four media hits with three different broadcasters across two continents, with *redacted* page views and counting… it’s been quite a day! I love writing features, analysis and commentary, but I also love covering big breaking news stories and helping our readers around the world navigate unfolding events in ways I hope are genuinely helpful. As I head into the weekend, my thoughts are with everyone negatively impacted by today’s outage in ways big and small.

This morning, CNET's senior correspondent Katie Collins chatted with CBS News to discuss the global IT outage from Microsoft caused by the cybersecurity update from CrowdStrike. "Even though the initial cause of the outage has now been fixed by Microsoft and its partner CrowdStrike, many services and businesses continue to be affected, including hospitals," Katie reported. The outage has affected airports, airlines, banks, hospitals and broadcasters around the world; while hitting thousands of Windows PCs. Several states across the US also reported their emergency 911 call centers have been hit as well. Data breaches happen more often than we think. And chances are, your personal data has been compromised at least once. I recently noticed an increase in the amount of scam messages I received on my phone and in my email inbox. Freezing my credit has helped me neutralize a major tool in identity thieves’ playbook. Finding the balance between living your best life and saving money isn’t easy. During my debt payoff journey, I found that depriving myself of fun purchases long-term made hitting my money goals feel like drudgery. So I came up with a fun 5% savings challenge to keep me motivated. If a credit card company could entice people to spend more with a 5% cash back offer, why not make that same promise to myself for crushing my money goals? I know how hard it is to stay motivated to pay down debt or reach lofty savings goals. This challenge kept me on track when I knocked out over $300,000 in debt and later saved over $1 million for retirement. Then when I became a money coach to help others reach financial independence, I saw firsthand how credit card rewards were creating a fear of missing out for my clients and encouraging them to overspend. So I rolled this challenge out to them -- and it was an instant hit. If you love the dopamine rush you get each time your credit card rewards hit your account but want to avoid risking debt or jeopardizing your financial priorities, you have to try my 5% cash-back challenge. Read the step-by-step on CNET today! Thanks to Dashia Milden and the team for sharing their platform with me! https://lnkd.in/esahkDMP

Today I was on Good Morning America to talk about how Prime Day has changed -- and that includes retailers trying to get your attention with travel deals. Big box retailers have been hitting us with sales for weeks now, and consumers are getting more savvy on how to price compare. So how does Amazon shake things up? By offering discounts on car rentals cruise tickets. Some other retailers sell vacation packages now, too. But expect the game to keep changing to keep shoppers interested in this new summer shopping holiday: https://lnkd.in/eHxSyGYS
