About us
The Horizon Europe project CLIMATEFIT contributes to bridging the resilience financing gap by providing critical insight and building the capacities of Public Authorities (PAs) to attract and orchestrate various public and private funding & financing sources, and of Financing and Investment Entities (FIEs) to discover and access resilient investment opportunities. CLIMATEFIT will experiment on a mix of 20 territories in Southern, Eastern and Northwestern Europe in their transformational pathways towards climate resilience. The journey will start by taking stock of funding & financing barriers and enablers gathered in the Financing Landscape taxonomy. CLIMATEFIT will create an ingenious Manual for leveraging finance to, 1) co-design 20 innovative investment strategies allowing to identify sources of funding 2) develop 10 credible and scalable investment plans to help better negotiate and articulate financing streams and define investment concepts, and 3) pilot 4 bankable, tailored investment cases. CLIMATEFIT will build a Pathway for FIEs to accelerate finance, test refined methods to reward climate-resilient investment and apply smart adaptation funding and financing solutions. It will establish Local Resilience Taskforces (LRTs) composed of PAs and FIEs that propose a catalytic and systemic approach to resilience financing. Led by WCF, the high-level consortium will build capacity, co-create solutions with PAs and FIEs, and inform EU adaptation and sustainable finance policies. Finally, CLIMATEFIT aims to boost resilience financing in Europe by consolidating the dynamics in LRTs, and to promote and scale its research findings through the European Network of LRTs and its user-oriented One- Stop Shop.

🐝 Biodiversity represents a crucial factor in mitigation (thanks to the absorption of CO2) and adaptation to climate change. 🦋 Forum per la Finanza Sostenibile - ItaSIF has just released the paper “Sustainable finance and biodiversity”, aiming at enhancing the understanding of the topic and increasing awareness of the economic and financial value of biodiversity. 🐛 Biodiversity and climate change are profoundly interconnected. Indeed, climate affects ecosystem balances: under a scenario aligned with the 1.5°C target increase in global average temperatures, the negative consequences on biodiversity are less severe than under a scenario of a 2°C target increase. Biodiversity, in turn, determines significant climate effects and is a crucial factor in mitigation (through CO2 absorption) and adaptation (Finance for Biodiversity Foundation 2023). 🍃For example, coastal, riverine, and mangrove forests are crucial in protecting against extreme climate events. Tree roots provide defence against waves and act as natural reservoirs during heavy rainfall; conversely, in areas where forest cover has been reduced or even eliminated, there is an increase in landslides and property damage (Dunn Rutherford and Liske 2021). 🔎 Read the full paper here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dmZHr5wj

📢 NEW LAUNCH | Enabling framework conditions (EFCs) are vital for scaling national and subnational climate finance. They provide regulatory clarity, enhance institutional capacity, mitigate investment risks, promote stakeholder engagement, and improve access to finance, thus supporting long-term sustainability. The CCFLA/#UrbanAct Assessment Tool is designed to help governments improve their access to climate finance by evaluating their enabling framework conditions (EFCs). 🔗 Learn more about the tools and download, here: https://bit.ly/EFCs Further information is also available at United Nations ESCAP’s Inclusive, Low Carbon, Resilient, Smart and Sustainable Cities: https://lnkd.in/gFiNgqEX #UrbanAct #UrbanClimateFinance #NetZeroCities #EFCs #EnablingFrameworkConditions #SustainableCities #GreenGrowth #ClimateAction #MultiLevelClimateAction Jessie Press-Williams Priscilla Negreiros Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH International Climate Initiative Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) TU Dortmund University University of Stuttgart

🌍 We are thrilled to announce that CLIMATEFIT has successfully launched a workshop to kick off investment strategies with lead cases in Flanders (BE), Brescia (IT), Strasbourg (FR), and Alba Iulia (RO). 🎉 The workshop brought together local facilitators, public authorities, and project partners to: 🔹 Discuss regional priorities for investment strategies 🔹 Equip participants with the knowledge and tools to overcome investment barriers 🔹 Engage local governments and develop effective partnerships By addressing both theoretical and practical aspects, we aimed to facilitate impactful investment projects. Involving public authorities in our investment strategy methodology is crucial, and we plan to cover all twenty territories in the coming months with similar workshops. These workshops mark a significant step forward in our mission to create a robust investment strategy for climate adaptation financing. We are excited about the journey ahead and look forward to working closely with our partners to build resilient and sustainable communities. 🌱🤝

Adaptation is about change management, and most people aren't instinctively good at change. This paper unpicks the issues and identifies the skills that will carry organisations forwards.
