  • Representing at the BIO International Convention because… South San Francisco anticipated—and planned for—the rapid growth in the biotech cluster. We invested over $300 million toward street improvements, water quality and sewer delivery upgrades. We work closely with universities and our community college to sustain our talented workforce. Construction continued through—and after—2020. Between 2019 and 2035, the City of South San Francisco anticipates that square footage dedicated to the life science industry in South San Francisco will double. • In South San Francisco, there is a silent workforce behind the scenes ensuring the infrastructure is well-maintained and operating smoothly. As we celebrate National Public Works Week 2024, it's a time to recognize and celebrate these dedicated people of Public Works. This year’s theme, “Advancing Quality of Life for All” honors their contributions toward a happier, safer, and more vibrant South San Francisco. These dedicated individuals manage operations in transportation, wastewater, stormwater, emergency management and first response, manage solid waste, right-of-way maintenance, and provide engineering services. Their dedication and professionalism are truly the heartbeat of our city, and we are grateful for all that they do. Please join us in honoring the work these professionals perform to improve quality of life for everyone here in South San Francisco! #publicworks #nationalpublicworks #cityservice

2024 Summer Learning Challenge returns on June 1 through August 31! Even though summer reading hasn't officially started yet, South San Francisco Public Library had another year of successful partnership with SSFUSD and the Parks & Recreation Department, distributing more than 4000 free summer reading books to youths from PreK-5th grade. For the South San Francisco youths who haven't received a book yet, starting June 1, visit either the Main Library (901 Civic Campus Way) or the Grand Library (306 Walnut Ave) and pick up a free summer reading book and a log! How important is summer reading? Studies show that children who have access to books and continue to read over the summer are more likely to maintain their grade-level reading skills when they start school again in the fall. Exciting books and programs provided by libraries will encourage children and their families to continuously return to libraries to borrow books and continue their reading adventures. This year's summer learning theme is "Read, Renew, Repeat", to encourage reading or listening in various formats (printed books, ebooks, comics, magazines, audiobooks, etc.) or taking care of your physical wellness, as restorative methods of self-care and self-improvement. Did you know, both the Main and Grand libraries each have a playground for children to run, play, and take care of their physical wellness as well? We hope to see you at either the library or at the playground this summer! #summerreading #readmorebooks #schoolprograms #libraryprograms
