This year, National Public Works Week is held from May 19th - 25th. The American Public Works Association sponsors Public Works Week to energize and educate the public on the importance of public works to their daily lives: planning, building, managing, and operating at the heart of their local communities to improve everyday quality of life. The 2024 theme is “Advancing Quality of Life for All” to highlight how Public Works professionals contribute to and enhance the quality of life in all communities they proudly serve. Each day this week, the City shared a video highlighting a different Division of our awesome Public Works Department through a series called “Your Infrastructure and You.” The City is grateful to the hardworking and dedicated members of our Public Works Department and thanks them for playing a key role in enhancing the quality of life for the Placentia community. May is Building Safety Month, and it's the perfect time to highlight the importance of keeping the City of Placentia safe. Building Safety Month is an international campaign celebrated in May to raise awareness about building safety. The 2024 Building Safety Month campaign theme is “Mission Impossible.” For the last 44 years, Building Safety Month has reinforced the need for the adoption of modern, regularly-updated building codes, and helps individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures. All communities need building codes to protect their citizens from disasters like fires, weather-related events and structural collapse. Building codes are society's best way of protecting homes, offices, schools, manufacturing facilities, stores and entertainment venues. Code officials work day in and day out to keep the public safe. This month, the City wants to thank our dedicated Building Safety team in our Development Services Department who work tirelessly to ensure our community is protected from potential disasters by ensuring all buildings in the City are safe and up to code.
