CITY OF DES PERES - DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY IS HIRING Firefighter-Paramedic, not cross-trained Firefighter-Paramedic, cross trained as a Police Officer Police Officer–Paramedic, cross trained as a Firefighter Paramedic-Part-time, not cross trained Des Peres Department of Public Safety, a fully integrated department which provides Police, Fire and Emergency Medical services to a community of 9,000, is recruiting Public Safety Professionals to establish an eligibility list for the following positions: Firefighter-Paramedic applicants who will not be cross trained as Police Officers. (Starting salary $70,128-$78,356.) Firefighter-Paramedic applicants who are interested in being cross-trained as Police Officers. (Starting salary $70,128-$78,356.) Police Officers will be cross-trained as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic during the first year of employment unless already certified - not mandatory at the time of employment. (Police Officer-Emergency Medical Technician Starting Salary $66,622-$73,240.) Police Officers that are currently certified as Paramedics. (Police Officer-Paramedic Starting salary $77,317-$81,194.) Paramedic (part-time)–applicants that who will not be cross-trained as Police Officers. (Starting hourly rate $27.56.) The Des Peres Department of Public Safety requires that applicants must meet the following minimum requirements: At least 21 years of age and Police Officer applicants must have successfully completed a State of Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) approved Police Academy. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification is preferred for Police Officer candidates but not mandatory at the time of application. Firefighter-Paramedic and Police Officer-Paramedic applicants must possess a current valid Missouri or National Registry Paramedic License. Certifications of ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS, or equivalent is preferred but not mandatory at the time of application. Prior firefighting and law enforcement experience is preferred but not mandatory. Selection process to include pre-applicant screening, oral interview panel, psychological exam, and pre-employment physical including full drug screen. PRESS RELEASE Des Peres – The Mayor and Board of Aldermen are thrilled to announce the selection of Scott Schaefer as the next City Administrator of Des Peres, set to take office on Monday, May 6th. His appointment was approved unanimously by the Board of Aldermen at their April 8, 2024, regular meeting. Schaefer brings a wealth of experience in municipal administration, currently serving as the City Administrator in Frontenac, and previously holding the position of Assistant City Administrator in Des Peres from 2016 to 2023. His deep roots in Des Peres, including various roles such as acting City Administrator, interim Director of Parks & Recreation, and Acting City Clerk, were instrumental in bringing him back to Des Peres. "I am thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to return to Des Peres in this new capacity," said Schaefer. “I am grateful to the Mayor and Board for their confidence in me, and I am eager to hit the ground running. Des Peres is an exceptional community with a stellar reputation in the region, and I take immense pride in the privilege to serve and represent it." Schaefer holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in public administration from Murray State University and was recently honored with the 2023 Richard Knoll Outstanding Assistant Award by the Missouri City Managers Association (MCMA). Prior to his time in Des Peres, Schaefer held various positions with the City of Woodson Terrace, including City Clerk and Director of Economic Development.
