One day might be spent analyzing plans and writing reports in the office, while the next could involve climbing into storm drains or inspecting construction sites. This variety keeps the job interesting and engaging. We have multiple openings in our Stormwater Management Division, including roles like Stormwater Enforcement Inspector, Stormwater MS4 Permit Specialist, and Stormwater Plan Reviewer. These positions are critical in ensuring compliance with stormwater regulations, preventing pollution, and maintaining the integrity of our water systems. But it’s not just about enforcing rules. 🚒 Did you know #TeamRFD’s firefighters begin their 48/96 (2 days on, 4 days off) work schedule with an 11 AM start time this week? The crew working today will go home tomorrow morning and not return until 11 AM Sunday morning. Our firefighters chose to try this new schedule because of its numerous benefits when compared to the traditional 24/48 work schedule, including: Sleep and Health Benefits: - Increased Uninterrupted Sleep: Firefighters can enjoy more nights of uninterrupted sleep at home, enhancing their overall well-being. - Later Start Time: Starting shifts at 11 am means firefighters don’t have to wake up early to commute to and from work, contributing to better sleep quality. - More Rest and Recovery Time: With longer uninterrupted periods at home, firefighters have more time to rest and recover. - Reduced Commute Times: Monthly commute times are reduced by an average of 60% (7 hours), giving our firefighters more time for themselves and their families. Work-Life Balance: - More Weekends Off: Firefighters will have 44% more weekends off, increasing from 18 two-day weekends to 26 four-day weekends annually. - Extended Home Periods: Firefighters will have up to 4 days at a time for uninterrupted periods at home with family, improving their work-life balance. Health and Safety: Firefighters have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, mental health challenges, and sleep disorders among our firefighters. Our team has partnered with sleep experts and mental health clinicians to conduct an independent study during this 6-month pilot program. This study will assess the impact of the 48/96 schedule on firefighter health, operational efficiency, and job satisfaction. Our goal is to continue being an innovative, world-class public safety organization and set trends that influence future national standards for firefighter health.
