About us
Children’s Mercy Kansas City is a leading independent children's health organization dedicated to holistic care, translational research, educating caregivers and breakthrough innovation to create a world of wellbeing for all children. With not-for-profit hospitals in Missouri and Kansas, and 20 sites of care in both states, Children's Mercy provides the highest level of care for children from birth through the age of 21. U.S. News & World Report has repeatedly ranked Children's Mercy as one of "America's Best Children's Hospitals," and is one of only 23 children’s hospitals in the nation to rank in all 10 pediatric specialties. For the fifth consecutive time in a row, Children's Mercy has achieved Magnet nursing designation, awarded to only about 8% of all hospitals nationally, for excellence in quality care. More than 700 pediatric subspecialists, researchers and faculty across more than 40 subspecialties are actively involved in clinical care, pediatric research and education of the next generation of pediatric subspecialists. Thanks to generous philanthropic and volunteer support, Children's Mercy provides hope, comfort and the potential of brighter tomorrows to every child who passes through its doors.

Our Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Stephanie Meyer has been with Children’s Mercy since her nursing school days. 26 years later, she has been part of all 5 Magnet designations and is now leading the effort to be one of the first pediatric hospitals to achieve a 6th. 🏆 “We started the Magnet journey because we were already doing all the things that are part of the Magnet designation,” Stephanie recalled. “Magnet designations build on what our founders, the Berry sisters, started and demonstrate how we continue to pioneer into the future and be the leader in children’s health care.” Listen in as Stephanie talks with Senior Director of Nursing Excellence and the Magnet Program, Paula Blizzard.

We appreciate care assistants like Katy who go above and beyond to help their patients and families find moments of joy during long hospital stays. About 8 years ago, Katy started “Katy’s Kustards,” customized ice cream sundaes for patients who had completed their bone marrow transplants. Now, thanks to word of mouth and donated supplies, she and her friend and coworker Erin are scooping up treats for anyone on the unit who could use a bright spot in their day. Thank you, Katy, for helping families have a better day, one scoop at a time! 🌟🍨

At Children's Mercy Kansas City, our Level IV NICU helps the most complex newborns develop into healthy kids. Kaydee, an energetic, horse-riding 10-year-old, started her journey as a premature newborn, weighing only 1 pound and 6 ounces. Baby Kaydee faced significant challenges, including severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and was transferred to our Level IV NICU at 4 months old. There, our NICU’s Chronic Lung Disease team, and Dr. Winston Manimtim, Director of the Infant Tracheostomy and Home Ventilator Program, provided the comprehensive care Kaydee needed to grow up strong. "Our practice has been to slowly transition to the home ventilator and let our patients guide us during the transition process," says Dr. Manimtim. This patient-centered approach, combined with multidisciplinary care and family support, helps even the most fragile infants overcome incredible odds. Today, Kaydee is breathing on her own and thriving on her family's ranch — a testament to the power of advanced neonatal care and the resilience of our youngest patients. It’s an honor to be one of the 10 children’s hospital hub sites for the Pediatric Pandemic Network (PPN), a program federally funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSAgov), HHS. As part of this, we recently hosted a team of government officials and pediatric preparedness experts from across the country. Here, they got to see firsthand how our team members prepare for the future and ensure all children will receive equitable access to healthcare during disasters, pandemics and emergencies. Thank you to PPN, HRSA, and Altarum for the time spent with us. We hope your look into some of the collaboration, education and preparation was inspiring!
