Today's #CNEHistory story is all about Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Oklahoma. WRD opened their doors for the first time in December of 2005, and officially reopened their doors last week following an EF-3 tornado damaging the casino May 26. The night of the severe weather was a true testament of the property's quick actions and teamwork. Every team member followed the property’s severe weather plan and sprang into action. In a remarkable 15 minutes, the WRD staff evacuated more than 150 people on the gaming floor to the casino storm shelter, and hundreds more at the packed KOA campground during dangerous conditions. As WRD temporarily went dark to pick up the pieces from the storm, the culture among the property’s team members continued to shine and resulted in the property's reopening. We are grateful for our team members, leadership, and community working together to bring this Claremore staple back to life! Check out Will Rogers Downs here 🔗 https://bit.ly/3SI9XU6

Today, the Arkansas Racing Commission issued the Pope County casino gaming license to Cherokee Nation Entertainment. We would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the great people of Pope County who have been steadfast in their support of our project and welcome the economic growth opportunity with open arms. STATEMENT FROM Chuck Garrett, CEO, CHEROKEE NATION ENTERTAINMENT: "It is an honor to have been issued the Pope County casino gaming license by the Arkansas Racing Commission. Holding the state's fourth and final license is a responsibility we take very seriously, and we are excited for Legends Resort & Casino Arkansas to become a reality. For more than five years, we have been laying the groundwork for this economic development project and embracing local community input. With the license in hand, we are prepared to finalize the remaining permitting and administrative processes so we can commence construction."
