Congratulations to Angel Bryant! Angel, a Fall 2023 CET Japan alumna, shared her study abroad experience and hopes for the US-Japan partnership to Prime Minister Kishida—in Japanese! 🎉 We're extremely proud of you!
Thanks to Embassy of Japan in the USA, I was extended the opportunity to give remarks (in Japanese!) to Prime Minister Kishida about my study abroad experience and plans to be a part of the next generation of US-Japan relations on April 9th. I briefly spoke about my experience during the TOMODACHI Initiative KAKEHASHI Project exchange program with students from Keiwa College in Niigata Prefecture. That experience inspired me to further my Japanese language and culture studies at Howard University and participate in the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program and study abroad in Osaka, Japan through CET Academic Programs. I am also an alumna of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program and the U.S.-Japan Bridging Foundation's Bridging Scholarship for study in Japan. It was a heartfelt full circle moment for me as, just a year prior, I gave remarks to Mrs. Kishida about my Kakehashi experience and hopes to continue being a bridge between the US and Japan, and found myself in front of the Prime Minister having achieved so much of what I wanted to do and plans for a much brighter future. Because of my strong ties to the US and Japan, I was also extended the opportunity to attend the official arrival ceremony for Prime Minister Kishida at The White House on April 10th. I was joined by my colleagues from the Japan-United States Friendship Commission and other US-Japan professionals and students at this historic event. I would like to personally thank Taichi Kaneshiro from Embassy of Japan in the USA, Seth Robins, Caitlyn Carpio and Sydney Sparrow from American Councils for International Education, Ethan Rosenzweig from U.S. Department of State, and Etsuko Yamakita and Kazuo Yaginuma, my Japanese professors, for all of their help preparing me for this event. On other good news, I'm #SAISBound! I will be pursuing a Master of Arts in International Relations at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) this fall. I also had a great time connecting with other CLS Alumni Ambassadors at the CLSAA Forum in DC and reconnecting with my 2 of my Japanese cohort members, Kirk P. Preston II and Abigail Fowler! I can't wait to see what all the new ambassadors have in store for the upcoming year. Stay tuned!

The #CETBeijing team recently took our students on a Traveling Seminar to Chengdu in the #Sichuan Province of China! Students spent a week in class before their Traveling Seminar with teachers and our on-site team to prepare for this 5-day immersive learning opportunity. 🚆 One notable aspect of this trip was touring Southwest Jiaotong University's magnetic levitation train laboratory. In the video, some of our students shared what they were curious about before arriving in #Chengdu, and they even got to experience riding the maglev train developed by China! Drew Kunard, CET Beijing Resident Director, also talked about how students should continue studying abroad to best understand different cultures, languages, and people. Special thanks to our host university, Southwest Jiaotong University, and China's Center for Language Education and Cooperation for their generous grant funding! 📹 Credit: "Amazing SiChuan" entity #CETStudyAbroad #CETAcademicPrograms #SouthwestJiaotongUniversity
