Only 1 in 10 children who are eligible for child care subsidies under federal eligibility rules has access to assistance. Federal funding does not allow states to serve all families who could benefit, as seen in data from CLASP's new report: https://brnw.ch/21wL58T

Policy Solutions That Work For People With Low Incomes
About us
Mission: CLASP's mission is to develop and advocate for policies at the federal, state and local levels that improve the lives of low income people. In particular, we seek policies that work to strengthen families and create pathways to education and work. Vision: Our vision is an America where children grow up safe, healthy, nurtured, and prepared to succeed; where young people and adults have the skills and supports they need to fulfill their potential and to contribute to society and the economy; where jobs provide decent wages and family friendly policies; where poverty is rare; where there is justice for all; and where all people can participate equally and their communities can prosper. Role: Through careful research and analysis and effective advocacy, CLASP develops and promotes new ideas, mobilizes others, and directly assists governments and advocates to put in place successful strategies that deliver results that matter to people across America. We are nonpartisan and situated at the intersection of local practice, national research, and state and federal policy, and striving to translate each world to each other.

BREAKING: In a historically shameful decision, the Supreme Court has ruled that homeless people are not included in the Constitution’s protections against cruel and unusual punishment. This ruling will make homelessness drastically worse and impact the 250,000+ people who sleep outside each night, as well as millions of Americans who are just one missed paycheck away from homelessness. Arresting or fining people for trying to survive is expensive, counterproductive, cruel, and simply does not work. We are enraged but unsurprised that the Supreme Court sided with out-of-touch billionaires and against the poorest among us. To truly solve homelessness, we demand the Biden administration and Congress invest at least $356 billion in transforming approaches to homelessness away from criminalization and towards proven solutions. All Americans should be able to meet their basic needs, but the reality is that income inequality and financial instability is rampant. @BreadfortheCity is hosting an Economic Security Summer Film Series in Washington D.C. to bring the conversation on economic security initiatives and discuss #GuarenteedIncome programs, including their pilot, CashRx. The first film screens on July 9th at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library at 5:00pm. Get involved and RSVP here: https://brnw.ch/21wL11o

There is a child care crisis. CCDBG funding has only increased 37% in the last 15 years, falling behind the pace of inflation. This creates stark inequities in access and eligibility for child care, as @CLASPChildCare’s new report explains: https://brnw.ch/21wL0ni

On June 19, 1865, enslaved Africans and African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom and the end of slavery, two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, we celebrate #Juneteenth, illuminating a previously overlooked piece of Black history.
