About us
The Center for American Progress is a think tank dedicated to improving the lives of Americans through ideas and action. We combine bold policy ideas with a modern communications platform to help shape the national debate, expose the hollowness of conservative governing philosophy, and challenge the media to cover the issues that truly matter. Our work builds upon progressive ideals put forth by such leaders as Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, JFK, and Martin Luther King. We draw from the great social movements of the 20th century—from labor rights and worker safety, to civil rights and women's suffrage. We translate those values into new ideas and action firmly rooted in the economic and political realities of the 21st century.

Project 2025 includes a plan to enact lifetime Medicaid caps so that once a person has been on Medicaid for a set amount of time, they could lose eligibility for coverage, regardless of their financial situation. This loss of Medical coverage would hurt millions of families, potentially forcing them into the impossible situation of having to choose between affording health care and meeting basic household needs.

The Great Recession of 2008, triggered by the financial crisis of 2007-2008, produced the most significant sustained job losses since the Great Depression in the United States. The authoritarian playbook Project 2025 would foster financial market risk-taking while kneecapping regulators’ ability to quell instability, potentially leading to recession and huge economic losses. https://lnkd.in/eW_NCkdG

Today, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that presidents are entitled to absolute or presumptive immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts that occurred during their time in the White House. As Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote in dissent, the majority opinion “reshapes the institution of the Presidency … [and] makes a mockery of the principle … that no man is above the law.” In response, Patrick Gaspard, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement: https://lnkd.in/ebGBAreM
