I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past 7 weeks that I have spent working in BI Data Analytics with Cellular Sales as their project management intern. I have learned so much through this experience, guided by my talented team- their support and patience were instrumental to my success in this role. Before starting, I completed over 20 hours of prerequisite courses with DataCamp, delving into the complexities of data modeling concepts within Power BI, including proficiency in building queries in DAX, MDX, and SQL syntax to load, join, and transform data in Power Query, utilizing dimensional modeling skills using the Kimball model. These courses laid the foundation for my work, specifically in building literacy in query languages, preparing me to tackle assigned tasks with confidence. Some key skills I developed through my internship include: • Data Warehouse Navigation: Familiarity with the data warehouse in navigating tables and views to appropriately reference for building SSRS reports in Microsoft Report Builder • Complex Query Transformation: Comfortability in performing complex query transformations in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) including syntax literacy for writing subqueries, advanced joins, filters, as well as creating and referencing temp tables • Power BI Reporting: Strategies in designing and constructing Power BI reports to effectively convey insightful data points to Verizon market dealers • DAX Measures: Writing DAX measures to calculate and filter fields to elevate effectivity of Power BI reports featuring KPIs, slicers, button bookmark filters, time intelligent functions, and other visuals to consistently and efficiently provide actionable insights • Dataflows & Semantic Modeling: Creating and managing dataflows within datamart to handle large datasets and transform queries for connection use in both semantic models and paginated reports. • Paginated Reports Development: Skills for designing and developing paginated reports within Power BI Report Builder, writing queries and parameters to return the data table of interest I demonstrated proficiency in query functions and transformed data to increase efficiency without compromising consistent accuracy. The data management, transformation, visualization, and analysis skills that I took away from this internship are invaluable experiences that I am excited to apply to my future academic and professional career. I cannot thank my team enough for their dedication to my success and growth this first half of the summer.
