Capuchin Community Services serves people in need at two locations: the House of Peace and Saint Ben’s Community Meal.

About us

Capuchin Community Services, serving people struggling with poverty, homelessness and related issues from two locations: House of Peace, 1702 W. Walnut, and St. Ben's Community Meal, 930 W State Street both in Milwaukee, WI. Our Mission: Inspired by the gospel of Jesus and the example of Francis of Assisi, the Capuchin friars of the Province of Saint Joseph, together with our partners in ministry, prayerfully build sister-brotherhood in the world. We attend simply and directly to the spiritual and other basic human needs, especially those of the poor and disenfranchised, promoting justice for all. At the House of Peace site, we need help the working poor of Milwaukee with a food pantry, clothes closet, and seasonal drives to meet the needs of families. No person should be hungry and none are turned away who seek emergency aid for food. The House of Peace also provides direct help to guests needing support with family issues. At St. Ben’s Community Meal site serves a hot, home-made dinner six nights a week, Sunday to Friday, 5:15 – 6:30 pm. Over 90,000 meals are served each year. All are welcome and are considered family in a community that shares a warm, safe environment. The St. Ben’s Community Meal site also provides assistance with bus tickets to medical appointments, traveler’s aid assistance, co-pays for necessary prescriptions, hair-cuts, a shower program, eye glasses, birth certificates, IDs, and GED tuition assistance. Each ministry site distributes hygiene items and has legal and healthcare services on site. Due to the current pandemic both sites have modified how they serve people in need. The House of Peace Emergency Food Pantry now operates under a scaffolding sidewalk cover outside year round. St. Ben's cooks and delivers meals to guests living in area supportive apartment complexes and the Cathedral Center Shelter.
