Capuchin Community Services serves people in need at two locations: the House of Peace and Saint Ben’s Community Meal.
About us
Capuchin Community Services, serving people struggling with poverty, homelessness and related issues from two locations: House of Peace, 1702 W. Walnut, and St. Ben's Community Meal, 930 W State Street both in Milwaukee, WI. Our Mission: Inspired by the gospel of Jesus and the example of Francis of Assisi, the Capuchin friars of the Province of Saint Joseph, together with our partners in ministry, prayerfully build sister-brotherhood in the world. We attend simply and directly to the spiritual and other basic human needs, especially those of the poor and disenfranchised, promoting justice for all. At the House of Peace site, we need help the working poor of Milwaukee with a food pantry, clothes closet, and seasonal drives to meet the needs of families. No person should be hungry and none are turned away who seek emergency aid for food. The House of Peace also provides direct help to guests needing support with family issues. At St. Ben’s Community Meal site serves a hot, home-made dinner six nights a week, Sunday to Friday, 5:15 – 6:30 pm. Over 90,000 meals are served each year. All are welcome and are considered family in a community that shares a warm, safe environment. The St. Ben’s Community Meal site also provides assistance with bus tickets to medical appointments, traveler’s aid assistance, co-pays for necessary prescriptions, hair-cuts, a shower program, eye glasses, birth certificates, IDs, and GED tuition assistance. Each ministry site distributes hygiene items and has legal and healthcare services on site. Due to the current pandemic both sites have modified how they serve people in need. The House of Peace Emergency Food Pantry now operates under a scaffolding sidewalk cover outside year round. St. Ben's cooks and delivers meals to guests living in area supportive apartment complexes and the Cathedral Center Shelter.

The 2024 Republican National Convention will bring many security regulations to the downtown Milwaukee area. In just a few short weeks during the Convention, July 15-18, we will be altering our services/hours to better serve our guests during this time. Our evening meal at St. Ben’s will run as normal, Sunday, July 14 to Thursday, July 18 from 5:15 pm - 6:30 pm. St. Ben’s will open up our overnight shelter from Monday, July 15 to Thursday, July 18, from 7 pm - 7 am, this will be available to anyone that needs overnight shelter. During the day, Community & Supportive Services, located at 650 W. Reservoir in Milwaukee, will be offering a cooling shelter. St. Ben’s Community Meal sits within the Convention’s Vehicle Screening Perimeter. Please allow yourself the time for that screening, or to park out of the perimeter and walk. Street parking will be prohibited from Tuesday, July 9 until Sunday, July 21. We greatly apologize for this inconvenience, and will work to keep you informed as new information is given to us.

Yesterday, Usinger's Famous Sausage dropped off the gift they pledged for the Capuchin Walk for the Hungry! For every walker registered, Usinger's donated up to 1 lb. of meat to be distributed through our food pantry. Thank you, Usinger's for your commitment and generosity! This meat will go right to the hands of those who need it most in our community. #capuchincommunityservices #capuchinwalkforthehungry #Usingerssausage #MKE #endhunger #community

This week, the House of Peace had three different groups from the Matthew 25 Summer Workcamp come by to volunteer! After a tour of the site, the groups sorted and assembled donations for the clothing closet and prepared bags for food pantry distribution. Chaperone, Yolanda, said the camp is a week long and hosts teens from several different parishes and churches, it gives them the opportunity for fellowship and to give back to the community. We are very grateful for all of their service to our ministry! #capuchincommunityservices #houseofpeace #stbenscommunitymeal #community #mke

Thank you to the Sisters of Saint Francis of Assisi in St. Francis, WI for their participation in this year’s Capuchin Walk for the Hungry! Before heading to Polish Fest grounds for the evening festivities, Father Mike and the rest of our team met up with the Sisters to walk around their convent grounds. We cannot thank them enough for their participation and efforts to support CCS! #capuchinwalkforthehungry #capuchin #capuchincommunityservices #houseofpeace #stbenscommunitymeal

Yesterday, St. Ben's had a wonderful group from Roundy's Supermarkets, Inc.'s who volunteered for the meal! The sponsor group, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, served delicious baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh fruit and veggies, and dessert. As the weather continues to shift warmer and folks need a break from the heat, please remember that St. Ben's is open from 1-4 pm Monday-Friday, and the meal is served 5:15 - 6:30 pm Sunday-Thursday. Stop in, cool off, and take advantage of the services we offer! #capuchincommunityservices #stbenscommunitymeal #houseofpeace #community #mke #capuchin
