It's an exciting week for BHPN as we launched the new Public Health Primer: Engaging Community Development for Health Equity! The primer was developed through a collaboration between Build Healthy Places Network and the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) to establish mutually supportive collaborations between these two sectors to advance health equity. It emphasizes the importance of resident leadership and provides guidance on how relationship-building can address injustices and promote equitable change in communities. 🌟 At BHPN, we’re committed to ensuring residents have agency in shaping their communities. Our latest endeavor, the tool ‘Community-Driven Data and Evaluation Strategies to Transform Power and Place,’ is a collaborative effort with Verge Impact Partners. The data we gather, the methods we employ, and who guides these processes all determine who wields influence over our communities' futures. When institutions exclude or overlook community involvement in data initiatives, they deepen mistrust and perpetuate harm. Developed with our BIPOC-led CDC partners and supported by The Kresge Foundation and W.K. Kellogg Foundation, this initiative underscores our dedication to equitable practices. Mindful Philanthropy is seeking to understand the current landscape of funding going to mental health, addiction, and well-being, as well as other related issue areas such as education, criminal justice, homelessness, other health issues, and poverty alleviation. This data will inform a public report due out in the fall to guide more strategic, impactful giving to the sector. Will you please consider taking a five-minute survey to support this effort? This confidential and anonymous survey will close on June 28th, 2024 and can be accessed using this link: https://lnkd.in/gxDwqrZa. It is intended for all funders, whether focused on mental health or other issue areas. With your help, we can map the field’s current giving, track trends over time, and identify the biggest needs. Mindful Philanthropy was launched in 2020 with a mission to catalyze impactful and strategic funding into mental health, addiction and well-being. In 2023, Mindful launched a series of guidance, called Mental Health at the Center, outlining the philanthropic case for investment in mental health and elevating five priority focus areas. This work serves to guide funders of all types and sizes on how to integrate mental health as a core focus of their portfolio. For more information, please see Mindful Philanthropy’s Mental Health at the Center initiative or contact alina@mindfulphilanthropy.org.

Build Healthy Places Network Co-Executive Director Ruth Thomas-Squance, MPH, PhD (she/her) shared our rural resources at the Rural Health Capital Resource Council Stakeholder meeting in Roclvilel, MD. Check our website to learn more about our Primer, Rural Healthcare Partnership Models of Investment Playbook and more.
Many people don't realize that I grew up in a rural part of the UK, in a Welsh village of just under 3000. I have experienced the frequent scarcity of resources but also the richness of community resilience and innovation that exists in rural communities. So I enjoyed reconnecting with others who care about rural and spent some time this week at the Rural Health Capital Resource Council Stakeholder Gathering in Maryland, where a group of cross-sector leaders came together to discuss 'Power of Partnerships: Catalyzing Community Health Investments in Rural Places. ' I had the chance to present and share Build Healthy Places Network's frameworks for action that can support #multisector collaboratives seeking upstream community investments to address the drivers of health inequities. There was so much potential in the room from these committed partners to drive systems changes through multi-sector approaches, at a regional level. Lifting up community-led solutions to direct life-changing capital to where it is needed the most. As with much in rural life, our answers lie in our collective impact. Thanks to our host Tom Morris at the Federal Office Rural Health Policy Headquarters and also to our organizers who put together the agenda and guided our discussions Kristin Juliar Ela Rausch Tammy Norville and National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) #multisector #sdoh #ruralhealth #ruralequity #communitydevelopment
