The ability to own one’s home is a driver of both economic mobility and generational wealth. Creating pathways for Black homeownership is central to a radically free Black future. It is essential to educate our communities to avoid predatory practices and empower us with the knowledge and resources to make homeownership attainable. Black brilliance and innovation drives our economy. Black businesses represent 2.2% of all employers and are growing quickly. A radically free Black future is one in which Black folks receive the support and resources to start and sustain their businesses. Economic mobility hinges upon opportunities to circulate dollars within our own communities. Read more community identified approaches to economic mobility: https://lnkd.in/eC8XpkY2

With the economic landscape changing every day, the jobs that will propel Black people do not yet exist, and it is through the brilliance of our young people that they will come into being. As we work toward economic liberation, it is essential that we center the innovation and voices of young Black people. They must be educated and supported in ways that empower them for the jobs of the future. Roughly 50,000 properties in Washington state had legal clauses that excluded people who were not white. These racist housing covenants are a huge driver for the disparity in homeownership. Last year, Gov. Jay Inslee signed a measure into law that will create a downpayment assistance program for people affected by these covenants. These types of reparations are important first steps in addressing the racist harms that continue to impact us today. https://lnkd.in/gY8TeMbQ

Black people deserve competitive pay. We bring a wealth of relevant experience and wisdom to every workplace we enter. It is essential that Black people are empowered to take leadership roles, and that once at those tables, that we receive the support and encouragement needed to be successful.
