Fighting Cancer, One Slide at a Time

About us

Biocare Medical LLC is an innovator in automated immunohistochemistry (IHC) instrumentation, and the full range of reagents for IHC and in situ hybridization (ISH; RISH) testing. Biocare pioneered multiplex IHC detection which accelerates turnaround time, increases instrument productivity and reduces reagent consumption and cost by 50% or more. Multiplex IHC allows pathologists to visualize more than one marker on a tissue at a time, allowing higher confidence for critical differentiation. Biocare's intelliPATH FLX is the only completely open, continuous random access IHC instrument available. The company’s customers come from clinical and research environments that do tissue based testing and include histology laboratories, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies; CROs; and academic, government and military labs. Biocare Medical offers an expanding portfolio of products for the rapidly growing cancer and infectious disease diagnostic and research markets. Biocare medical is headquartered and has manufacturing facilities in Concord, Calif., and has a global distribution network. See biocare.net and slidestainer.com for more information. 🦴As we recognize Sarcoma/Bone Cancer Awareness Month, it's crucial to shine a light on key markers in clinical and research that play roles in our understanding of this disease.   Vimentin [V9] is a mouse monoclonal that recognizes a 57-60 kDa protein, which is identified as vimentin. ✨It shows no cross-reactivity with other closely related intermediate filament proteins such as desmin and GFAP. ✨Studies have shown that Vimentin is the main intermediate filament protein in mesenchymal cells, and therefore is of value in the differential diagnosis of undifferentiated neoplasms including melanoma and sarcoma. ✨Vimentin can also serve as an internal control for formalin-fixed tissues that are over-fixed.   https://lnkd.in/eTMd9c2A Let's continue our collective efforts in research, awareness, and support to better understand, prevent, and treat cancer. 🦴 As we recognize Sarcoma/Bone Cancer Awareness Month, it's crucial to shine a light on key markers in clinical and research that play roles in our understanding of this disease. ✨CD31, also known as platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1), is a transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on endothelial cells and platelets. ✨Its diagnostic utility lies in its role as a marker for blood vessels and endothelial cells in various tissues. ✨CD31 staining is particularly useful in distinguishing angiosarcoma, a malignant vascular tumor derived from endothelial cells, from other tumor types. Its expression pattern aids in the diagnosis of vascular lesions and helps differentiate them from non-vascular neoplasms. https://lnkd.in/dk7cR26X Let's continue our collective efforts in research, awareness, and support to better understand, prevent, and treat cancer. 🦴As we recognize Sarcoma/Bone Cancer Awareness Month, it's crucial to shine a light on key markers in clinical and research that play roles in our understanding of this disease. CD99, also known as MIC2, is a cell surface protein with significant diagnostic utility in the field of immunohistochemistry (IHC), particularly in the context of bone and soft tissue tumors. ✨CD99 is a critical immunohistochemical marker in the diagnosis of bone tumors, particularly for identifying Ewing sarcoma/pPNET due to its high sensitivity and specificity for these tumors. ✨Its strong membranous staining pattern is a hallmark for Ewing sarcoma, making it an essential part of the diagnostic panel for small round blue cell tumors in bone and soft tissue such as: Rhabdomyosarcoma: CD99 is usually negative or shows only focal positivity in rhabdomyosarcoma, aiding in differentiation. Neuroblastoma: Neuroblastomas typically do not express CD99, helping distinguish them from Ewing sarcoma. Lymphomas: Most lymphomas do not express CD99, although some lymphoblastic lymphomas might show positivity. https://lnkd.in/eSDmQS8F Let's continue our collective efforts in research, awareness, and support to better understand, prevent, and treat cancer. 🦴 As we recognize Sarcoma/Bone Cancer Awareness Month, it's crucial to shine a light on key markers in clinical and research that play roles in our understanding of this disease. PRAME (Preferentially Expressed Antigen in Melanoma) is a cancer-testis antigen that has gained significant attention for its diagnostic utility in immunohistochemistry (IHC) diagnostics. Here’s an overview of its diagnostic utility: ✨While generally used in Melanoma differentiation and prognostics, PRAME also has utility in germ cell tumors and its detection can aid in the diagnosis and characterization of tumors in Sarcomas. ✨PRAME is expressed in a variety of other cancers, including breast, lung, and ovarian cancers. While its expression in these cancers is not as specific as in melanoma, it can still provide useful diagnostic information, particularly in the context of poorly differentiated or undifferentiated tumors. https://lnkd.in/gGMwKhx Let's continue our collective efforts in research, awareness, and support to better understand, prevent, and treat cancer. 🦴 As we recognize Sarcoma/Bone Cancer Awareness Month, it's crucial to shine a light on key markers in clinical and research that play roles in our understanding of this disease. ✨Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) is also known as Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV). It encodes a latent nuclear antigen which is the product of the viral gene ORF73.1 ✨IHC staining for HHV-8 is a valuable tool in confirming the diagnosis of Kaposi's sarcoma, particularly in cases where clinical presentation or histology is inconclusive. ✨HHV-8 is strongly linked to Kaposi's sarcoma, a vascular tumor that can manifest in different forms, including classic, endemic, iatrogenic, and epidemic . 🎗️Cancer Survivor Awareness Month This month is Cancer Survivor Awareness Month. We honor those who have faced the immeasurable challenges of a cancer diagnosis and emerged victorious, encouraging others with their stories of faith, hope, and courage. They inspire us with their love, strength, and determination. This month is also a reminder of the progress made in cancer treatments and the ongoing need for diagnostic support and research. Our foundational mission at Biocare is "fighting cancer one slide at a time" and we celebrate this month with the friends and families of those that have conquered or are still fighting this terrible disease. Let’s use this month to amplify the voices of cancer survivors, celebrate their victories, and commit to supporting their journey every step of the way.
