This statement by David Sylvan at University Hospitals hits the nail on the head: "Health systems can't merely 'exit stage left' when times get tough. We remain responsible for our patients and populations and have to increasingly adopt or design creative strategies to remain solvent and viable." Innovation is a core tenant of Bingham Healthcare and we are constantly looking for ways to improve quality, while also decreasing the cost of care in order to maintain services in the communities that we love and serve.

Regarding Walmart's announcement that it would be closing its health centers and virtual care offerings five years into its foray into healthcare. The company cited the "challenging reimbursement environment" and "escalating operating costs" that left its healthcare arm unprofitable. This statement from David Sylvan, chief strategy and innovation officer of Cleveland-based University Hospitals is spot on: "Walmart, like Walgreens and Amazon and others before them, are experiencing the reality that healthcare systems have had to contend with for years. A compressed reimbursement environment, operating and supply chain inflation, and of course, increased workforce costs, have all but eroded the majority of health systems' margins in recent years." And then this, which is the crux of it: "Health systems can't merely 'exit stage left' when times get tough. We remain responsible for our patients and populations and have to increasingly adopt or design creative strategies to remain solvent and viable."

Bingham Healthcare continues to hold an annual employee Christmas Party, despite our growth and size. The Mountain America Center staff did an amazing job hosting a group this size. We are a 24/7/365 operation and so, of course, not everyone can attend, because of the important work that must go on. Thank you to all those who maintain patient care at our hospitals and clinics during these events. Thanks to our BODs who continue to support important traditions like this. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!

We recently held our company’s triennial strategic planning meetings, and I can't express enough how fortunate we were to have Chris McChesney as our strategic planning facilitator and keynote speaker. From start to finish, Chris demonstrated an exceptional level of expertise and charisma that left a lasting impact on our entire team. Thank you Chris. You’re a true gem.

Soldiers and veterans make great employees because they are disciplined individuals, who are trained in problem solving, leadership, and adaptability. They are loyal team players who work hard.

Soldiers make great employees. Bingham Healthcare proudly employs citizen soldiers of the Guard and Reserve who work as doctors, nurses, and techs during the workweek but who turn into soldiers on weekends, two weeks per year, or when called upon to deploy. Today, I attended a BossLift (and rode in a Blackhawk 😳) with the Idaho Army National Guard, Idaho Air National Guard, and the Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve (ESGR). Huge respect for the citizen soldiers who leave their families and pause their jobs when called upon. Brigadier General Timothy J. Donnellan of the Idaho Air National Guard said something that really resonated with me today. He said a national guard is how the founding fathers envisioned our military. A standing army is necessary for rapid mobilization but a citizen soldiery through the Guard and Reserves is a force multiplier. As I see it, it’s part if what makes The United States of America distinctively who we are as a nation—citizens who are trained, able, and willing to fight if necessary to defend their family, life, liberty and country. Thank you to Cindy Reese for organizing this event for Eastern Idaho. #IdahoNationalGuard #EmployerSupport #CitizenSoldiers
