Following the inadvertent release of Desiree Sanchez on Wednesday, July 24, the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) is taking additional measures to prevent an incident like this from occurring again. Measures include an extra layer of human review to ensure accuracy during the intake and discharge process. Accordingly, MDC is conducting a thorough internal investigation into what exactly transpired during the discharge process that allowed this incident to occur. Additionally, MDC’s Security Threat Investigation Unit (STIU), is investigating if any circumstances outside the discharge process are present. More info: https://lnkd.in/gPMmVydS

Bernalillo County Parks, Recreation and Open Space invites the public to a special dedication ceremony at the Kiki Saavedra Community Center on Tuesday, July 30, to honor the late Henry "Kiki" Saavedra and commemorate the renaming of the center in his memory. Saavedra represented a South Valley district for 38 years in the New Mexico State Legislature and served as the chair of the House Appropriations and Finance Committee. During his tenure, he helped obtain funding for the (formerly known) Mountain View Community Center as well as many other recreational facilities in the area. He passed away in 2019. Attention BernCo residents! Are you unsure of what to do with your used tires? 🛞 We have solutions! Come to one of our free "Tire Amnesty Day" events to properly dispose of your tires and help the environment. Improperly stored or dumped tires attract disease-carrying rodents and mosquitoes, posing serious health and safety concerns! ☢️ And mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance... In New Mexico, they can transmit diseases, including the West Nile virus, which can lead to a fatal neurological disorder. The shape of tires traps rainwater and prevents it from evaporating. Mosquitos love this environment! They have shelter from the elements and predators, water, and collected leaf debris for food in the tires. Tires also trap heat, which speeds up egg hatching and larval growth. Removing tires from your property and disposing of them at a Tire Amnesty Day event helps prevent the creation of the mosquito breeding conditions described above. The City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County provide a joint mosquito control program. To report high mosquito population areas and standing water in your neighborhood, please call 311 or (505) 314-0350. Let's work together to keep our community safe! 🌿🦟💧 #BernCo #CommunitySafety #TireDisposal #MosquitoControl
