Gabbie Reade has been working in the restaurant industry for over 12 years! She's currently the Director of Communications at NoHo Hospitality Group where she's involved in everything from websites, to social media, to menu design, to partnerships, and so much more. Learn about Gabbie's favorite tool to stay organized and why she loves the hospitality industry so much in this month's #AskAnAdmin ✨ Q: What was your path to becoming a restaurant administrator? A: “I grew up in LA, and my high school had an internship program. I landed at SBE, a hospitality group with businesses in LA, Las Vegas and Miami. My connections from that summer turned into a social media internship the following summer. I also worked at a few restaurants as a host, server or supervisor and immediately fell in love with all aspects of the industry, but especially the people.” Q: How long have you worked in the restaurant industry? A: “I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for a little over 12 years now and as of this week, seven of those years have been spent at NoHo. In my time here, I’ve worked on 15 restaurant openings and helped to open four hotels across four cities — NYC, Detroit, Baltimore, and Nashville. In 2021, we did five openings in three cities over the course of six months!” Q: Are there any tools that you use that you would suggest for other administrators? A: “I love TeuxDeux. I have more to-do lists than I have shoes (and that’s saying a lot), but I find that it’s a great way to refocus my tasks. As much as I love a paper & pen to-do list (which I still make!), overseeing 20+ restaurants is no small feat. Having a digital track record that I can view on the go, on both my phone and my laptop, is paramount to my team’s success.” Q: What is a well-run restaurant group like and what can restaurant groups do to be more like that? A: “Communication might be in my job title, but I really do believe that stellar communication is key. To go even further, we rarely are able to get things done without each other, so I believe that asking colleagues for help - whether it’s a listening ear or a comforting shoulder - is extremely important in terms of global success.” “Working in hospitality changes you, and I believe that while the work can certainly be demanding, we learn unique versions of empathy and resilience in a way that sticks with you.”
