Thanks WMAR Channel 2 and @Xavier Wherry for spreading the word about our $1 million investment loan into the Mayflower Apartments in East Baltimore. In partnership with Community Solutions, Inc., we’re one of several organizations all over the U.S. working to provide crucial housing resources under a private-equity business model. This business model, which is the first of its kind on a national scale, bypasses the shortfalls associated with constructing new affordable housing including excessive costs and slow delivery — key factors driving the housing gap in the country. Our investment loan will be used to fund innovations to the property, in addition to securing its ownership under Community Solutions and its management model for the next decade. In Fall 2023, BCF funded a Brewer’s Hill alleyway mural designed to discourage dumping and littering in the neighborhood. Not only did it succeed, but it has also become a space for community gathering and play. Tell us in the comments – what could make your neighborhood a more inviting, vibrant community gathering space?
