We’re getting ready to wrap up project 1 of 3 at a data center campus in Northern Virginia. Recently we’ve completed 4 sets of interior stairs with channel stringers, wire mesh rails and cane rails. Next, the weld blocks on the lobby stair will receive a glass shoe so a glass railing system can be installed. After some additional finishing touches including bollards and counter supports are installed the project will be complete. Last week the Baltimore Fabrication team enjoyed a Baltimore Orioles game at Camden Yards with colleagues from The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. Even though the O’s lost to the Cleveland Guardians, the evening was still a home run.

We recently had the opportunity to demo Trimble Construction's VR headset which streamlines the steel detailing and construction process by enhancing visualization, accuracy, collaboration, planning, and safety training. This advanced technology allows for a detailed, immersive examination, enabling the user to identify and resolve potential discrepancies early in the design phase. By visualizing the #BIM models in a virtual environment, the user can make precise adjustments, enhancing the overall accuracy and efficiency of the construction process. This innovative approach helps to mitigate risks, streamline workflow, and ensures seamless integration. #ConstructionVR #BIMTechnology #ConstructionTech #BuildingInnovation

Things are moving right along at the Johns Hopkins job site. The installation of the monumental stair to the first mid-landing is complete and the crew is working on installing the stairs to the second mid-landing. Pans have been left out of the second set of steps to allow the crew to access the underside of the stair. The stair treads have been filled with concrete and will receive a 1-3/8” thick precast terrazzo tread on top. Next, stainless-steel railings will be welded in place and the connections will be concealed with a precast tread and recessed escutcheon.

These striking, custom-fabricated red trusses were recently installed at the Rod 'N' Reel Resort in Chesapeake Beach, MD. Their fabrication required a variety of advanced techniques including radius bending, laser cutting, and meticulous assembly. Each step demanded careful quality control to ensure their structural integrity and aesthetic appeal. Installation of the trusses posed a challenge because they needed to be installed after the roof framing and decking were in place. This meant they could not be fabricated in one piece and placed with a crane into location. Our erectors overcame the logistical and technical challenges and positioned the trusses perfectly within the structure, without using traditional hoisting methods. The result is a stunning architectural feature that showcases the exceptional skill and commitment of everyone involved.

Baltimore Fabrication co-founders and managing partners, Mark Rich and Scott Foreman admire the craftsmanship of the spiral staircase at the Engineers Club of Baltimore at Garrett Jacobs Mansion. Noted for its intricate ironwork, carved wooden railings, and grand design, the spiral staircase showcases the elegant craftsmanship and architectural innovation typical of the Gilded Age.
