In a recent discussion led by Ballistic’s David Hahn, we took a deep dive into topics, including AI usage in coding, SBOMs transparency, CISA’s call for responsibility, vulnerability rationalization, and trends in software development. One hot topic was the tension between engineering and security teams. Do you agree with some of the things we heard?... “There is definitely tension, motivated by speed, velocity, and agility, compounded by the breadth of the attack surface.” “It's a healthy tension: security has a seat at the table and has those conversations with engineering and product management. There's only tension when they ‘check in’ on the technical teams. Security needs to be embedded in the process to begin with.” “The focus should be on making security a core part of what everyone does. Some of the largest #cybersecurity companies have been created by protecting the enterprise edge. For example, the network edge protected by Palo Alto Networks and the endpoint edge protected by CrowdStrike. But there's a new enterprise edge emerging: It's the identity edge and enterprises are realizing that there are many more identities than endpoints that have to be secured. The move to cloud and SaaS along has made this identity edge much larger, much more fragmented and much more vulnerable to attack than in the past. Portfolio company AuthMind has taken a wholistic approach to protecting the identity edge and IBM saw this unique approach when ultimately selecting to OEM their product.
