Last Thursday, we successfully hosted the 55th Running of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race. This event exemplifies all of Atlanta Track Club's core values - community, camaraderie, and competition - in the best possible ways. In the midst of the Club's busiest season, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution covered a glimpse of what it looks like behind the scenes as we prepare for the world's largest 10K. They also covered many changes we introduced to this year's race, such as the Elite High School division. Check out their coverage at https://lnkd.in/gStAPKHe

This past spring, over 2,600 kids from the greater Atlanta area collectively ran over 39,000 miles during their 10-week Kilometer Kids program! You can help us build the next generation of runners and walkers by signing up to be a site lead/head coach for the Fall 2024 Kilometer Kids season, and there’s no experience necessary! We will provide you with daily practice plans, an orientation and lots of mentoring and support. Learn more and sign up today at https://lnkd.in/g-HxdJ-9

When Fulton County sheriff Patrick Labat was a teenager, he once spent his Fourth of July running the AJC Peachtree Road Race course backwards with his friends. He said he had no idea how to register for the race at the time. Now 56, he fully knows how to register for the race and has done so every year since the early 1990s. For 22 years, Julia Emmons served as the Race Director for the world’s largest 10K and Executive Director for Atlanta Track Club. Now, in her 80s, the former city councilperson may not be in charge of the race’s logistics and operations anymore, but she is still committed to walking it and continuing her tradition. While leading the race and organization from 1985-2006, she grew the Club’s membership from 2,000 to 10,000, added signature events like the Microsoft Peachtree Junior, and comprised the Grand Prix Race Series. She was also instrumental in bringing the 1996 Olympic Games to Atlanta and was chosen to be the Race Director for the Men’s and Women’s Marathons and Race Walks. This July 4th, Emmons will be out on the course with tens of thousands of runners and walkers enjoying the party of the summer. Read her story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's People of Peachtree series at ajc.com/peachtree. Join Emmons in the race by registering by June 15 at https://lnkd.in/ge38DXCe.
