Harnessing science, technology, and innovation (STI) is key to creating efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems, essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Advances in digital technologies, including AI, blockchain, and IoT, offer transformative potential but also pose risks, such as exacerbating socioeconomic disparities. It's crucial to address the context-specific needs of small-scale producers and evaluate the impacts of these technologies. Our study identifies 18 emerging issues in agrifood systems, aiming to alert policymakers to opportunities and threats. These issues span personalized nutrition, food waste reduction, cellular agriculture, IoT, 3D food printing, gene editing, and more.
