  • Recently, AWG Cares provided a grant in the amount of $3,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. The grant request was submitted by Floyd Baker, AWG Gulf Coast Division Support Center employee. The mission of St. Jude Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of their founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family’s ability to pay. Floyd’s daughter is a research scientist at St. Jude Memphis and he also sponsors a friend during the St. Jude annual race.     Recently, AWG Cares provided a grant in the amount of $3,000 to Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Missouri/Kansas City Southeast Chapter in Blue Springs, MO. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to building and delivering hand-made, fully furnished beds to children in need. “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town” is their motto and their mission is to tackle childhood bedlessness, which is estimated to affect nearly 3% of the population.   • Recently, AWG Cares provided a grant in the amount of $3,000 to reStart in Kansas City, MO. The grant request was submitted by Doug Martinson, AWG Support Center employee. ReStart Inc. provides emergency shelter for youth, families, individuals, and veterans in the Kansas City area. They also offer emergency, temporary, and permanent housing programs and case management services. After Doug and his coworkers in the AWG Business Analytics Department donated money as a group to reStart, Doug was inspired to submit a grant request to AWG Cares for the organization. The entire department was motivated knowing that, together, they could make a huge impact in the community. They got to see firsthand how AWG is a partner to the success and growth of our member retailers’ stores. By connecting with Cassandra, Linsey, and Anthony who help support our member retailers in the field, they gained valuable insights into the grocery retail industry and saw the tangible impact of their work.   • Recently, AWG Cares provided a grant in the amount of $3,000 to Pivot, Inc. in Oklahoma City, OK. The grant request was submitted by Michelle Mason, AWG Oklahoma City Division Support Center employee. When youth between the ages of 12 and 17 need a safe and secure temporary place to live, the Pivot, Inc. Family Junction shelter provides that place. Whether they are in DHS custody or without parental support or having run away from home, youth who stay with Pivot receive clean beds, nutritious meals counseling, emotional support, the ability to attend school, tutoring if needed, recreational and social activities. Also the Community Intervention Center (CIC) offers assistance to youth brought to Pivot by law enforcement. They connect them with needed services such as food, closing, housing, medical care, counseling or mentoring. The CIC helps them understand court proceedings.   • Recently, AWG Cares provided a grant in the amount of $1,000 to Pet Resource Center of Kansas City in Kansas City, MO. The grant request was submitted by Kelly Hasenohr, AWG Support Center employee. Pet Resource Center of Kansas City is committed to being a safe and trusted resource for the community to ensure that no one is denied the love of an animal due to limited resources. “They offer so many services to families in need throughout the Kansas City area for free and/or at very affordable prices.
