A West Coast policy incubator, training a new generation of tech policy entrepreneurs.

About us

The Aspen Tech Policy Hub is a West Coast policy incubator, training a new generation of tech policy entrepreneurs. We take tech experts, teach them the policy process through executive education and in-residence fellowship programs, and encourage them to develop outside-the-box solutions to society’s problems. We model ourselves after tech incubators like Y Combinator, but train new policy thinkers and focus the impact of their ideas.

🙌  So excited to boost this accomplishment from 2023 Nonprofit and Public Interest Fellowship alum Saad Asad! Saad recently published his first op-ed in The San Diego Union-Tribune on solving San Diego's housing crisis by reimagining the urban landscape. 🔗  Read the full op-ed here: https://lnkd.in/dXhrjJHa

🖋️ Writer's dilemma: once your work is published, you can't help but see all the ways you'd want to improve it. Nevertheless, I'm proud to share my first (certainly not last) op-ed published in a newspaper! 📰 My argument: Solving San Diego's housing crisis requires reimagining our urban landscape. We need fewer homes sprawling away from jobs and more homes near walkable, transit-friendly communities. The City of San Diego is doing just that by refreshing its General Plan and proposing two specific plans that could add up to 47,000 new homes. These focus on communities with existing bikeways and transit stations, building homes that rely less on cars and are closer to jobs. The plans also expand sidewalks and create more public promenades. 🏙️🚲 Critics worry about overcrowding, but this fear is misplaced. More homes in well-connected areas improve quality of life. It supports local businesses, enables better public transit, and creates vibrant neighborhoods. The real threat to San Diego isn't more neighbors—it's pricing out longtime residents. San Diego will evolve one way or another. We have two choices: 1. Add homes 2. Let the region become an enclave for the wealthy I choose option 1. 🏘️ Read my full op-ed here 🔗: https://lnkd.in/g2SPchfC In San Diego and want to get involved? 📣  Check out Hub alum Lana R.‘s webinar tomorrow, July 9th at 1:30pm ET. She will be discussing technology-inclusive safety planning to help survivors find support through case studies and trauma-informed services. 🔗  Register here: https://lnkd.in/dAsTsMwh

Over the past 2.5 years, I've overseen 463 survivors of domestic violence who have been referred to Cornell Tech's Clinic to End Tech Abuse, and personally worked with 153 of them to understand and safety plan around tech abuse. That's a small number compared to the amount of survivors who need help, and yet far more than most survivors in need actually get. That's why I'm so excited to collaborate with Adam R. Dodge on this upcoming 90-minute webinar on July 9th at 1:30 ET, in which I'll take a deep dive into technology-inclusive safety planning. I'll be covering the basics, but also pulling select case studies of real scenarios I've encountered and sharing my approach to trauma-informed and practical service. My hope is that sharing details of what I've learned will help more survivors find the support they need with their tech. https://lnkd.in/eEp7rGJg
