Balancing the needs of a multigenerational workforce presents several problems for hospital and health system leaders. These challenges include tailoring communication preferences, packaging benefits for staff in different phases of life, and cultivating a cohesive culture of accountability and mentorship across teams with divergent views. While healthcare decisionmakers can't ignore these challenges, they should also not let the "bad" overshadow the "good." Having a generationally diverse workforce also has its benefits. One of those benefits — according to Rebecca F. Cady, Chief Risk Officer with Children's National Hospital in Washington D.C. — is leveraging the knowledge and experience of older workers to drive transformation. "A lot of the older generation has adapted really well to digital [technology]," she says in the short video below. Ms. Cady believes older, tech-literate workers with years of experience and expertise can become change agents and help solve long-standing problems. "We can tap [older workers] to take new digital tools and help solve old problems," she says. To make healthcare more efficient and equitable, health system leaders must tap into the expertise and ingenuity of its workforce. This November, more than 1,000 healthcare executives will gather in Chicago to unpack these issues and more at Becker's CEO + CFO roundtable. Here's how to join them: https://hubs.ly/Q02H_0n20
