We are in an URGENT capacity crisis‼ Population growth, increased home prices and evictions, inflation, and lack of affordable pet friendly housing and veterinary care has created a worst-case scenario for our community. “Clearing our adoption kennels of healthy pets provides us with the best opportunity to continue to serve more sick, injured, and abused pets across the Valley”, said Dr. Steven Hansen, President and CEO of AHS. Now until July 7, ALL PETS are $0 in an effort to empty the shelter thanks to our friends at BISSELL Pet Foundation. Visit azhumane.org/adopt to view all available pets and adoption locations. #Emergency #Adopt #BISSELLPetFoundation #ArizonaHumaneSociety

Shout out to Community Support Coordinator Bella Piunti for joining members of the development team at a recent Hill's Pet Nutrition National Conference. As part of their Give Back Session, Bella spoke in front of 400 Hill’s employees about AHS’ community support initiatives. In collaboration with MCACC’s Shelter Diversion Navigator, she shared about the importance of keeping pets and families together and how AHS uniquely addresses the challenges of struggling pet owners. After her presentation, Hill’s employees went to work stuffing nearly 800 backpacks full of human and pet essentials to be given out to those in need. AHS received 260 of those backpacks and will distribute them to unhoused or struggling pet parents through Community Support, Animal Assistance, Field and on the Healthy Tails Mobile Clinic.

It’s kitten season and volunteers have been prepping kitten supplies for Foster Heroes. One of our recent corporate groups from MicroAge IT Services bagged 200 pounds of litter and over 600 pounds of kitten food in just one hour! Though the quantities seem large, these items will only last about a week given how busy this kitten season is. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out! Interested in group volunteering? AHS President and CEO Dr. Hansen talks all about our state-of-the-art campus on the newest episode of People, Pets, and Purpose!
Dr. Steven Hansen, President and CEO of Arizona Humane Society, is the leader behind a new, state-of-the-art animal welfare campus designed with the welfare of both people and pets in mind. More than an animal hospital and trauma center—this facility is a full pet resource and adoption center. In the latest episode of People, Pets, and Purpose, a Human Animal Support Services podcast hosted by Diaz Dixon, Dr. Hansen discusses why Arizona Humane decided to make their focus about engaging with the community versus a more traditional or medical center shelter model.
