Shout out to Community Support Coordinator Bella Piunti for joining members of the development team at a recent Hill's Pet Nutrition National Conference. As part of their Give Back Session, Bella spoke in front of 400 Hill’s employees about AHS’ community support initiatives. In collaboration with MCACC’s Shelter Diversion Navigator, she shared about the importance of keeping pets and families together and how AHS uniquely addresses the challenges of struggling pet owners. After her presentation, Hill’s employees went to work stuffing nearly 800 backpacks full of human and pet essentials to be given out to those in need. AHS received 260 of those backpacks and will distribute them to unhoused or struggling pet parents through Community Support, Animal Assistance, Field and on the Healthy Tails Mobile Clinic.

There are only 4 days left in our International Pet Appreciation Rally fundraising campaign and we are only $14,573 from meeting our goal! Thanks to an extraordinarily generous matching gift from one of our animal-loving friends, your gift today will go TWICE as far to end the Yulin Dog Meat "Festival” and the brutal dog and cat meat trade behind it! The diminishing popularity of the "festival" is one of many proofs that our steady, strategic approach is working and driving the positive change we've been sharing with you. Diminished is good - but not good enough. We must continue delivering animal care, education, and advocacy 365 days a year in Yulin and other dog and cat meat-eating communities. Your contribution today will help save the lives of innocent dogs and cats now and in the future by helping us continue our critical work. Can you pitch in any amount to help? Your support makes ALL the difference. With help from caring friends and animal advocates like you, we continue to reach more and more people in Yulin - and other dog and cat meat-eating communities - with transformational programs that help them embrace dogs and cats as family, not food. Together, we WILL end the suffering of innocent dogs and cats. https://buff.ly/3VO3Qzy #PetAppreciationRally #FamilyNotFood #FriendsNotFood #EndDogMeatTrade #EndCatMeatTrade #StopYulinFestival #DuoDuoProject

According to the American Pet Products Association, Americans spent $136.8 billion on their pets in 2022, which was a 10.68% increase from 2021. Your companions are not replaceable, they are members of your family. During National Pet Day, we here at The Signatry want to support the relationship between you and your furry companion. Here are some of the charities that our donors support that champion your pets: ASPCA: Provides vital veterinary care, responds to disasters, pioneers adoption and behavioral rehabilitation programs, conducts critical animal welfare research, trains law enforcement and shelter professionals, and advocates for more effective laws against animal cruelty. Comfort Connections: Utilizes golden retrievers to create compassionate connections that promote empathy, understanding, comfort, inclusion, and acceptance. This unique bond strengthens human resilience through times of crisis, persistent adversity, and disruptive transitions. Agape Therapeutic Riding Resources: Serves individuals and groups of all ages who have physical, emotional, cognitive, or social disabilities through various equine-assisted programs. #nationalpetday #nonprofit #support

Today, we’re launching a project that is very close to my heart. As you can probably tell from the things I post, dogs play a huge role in my life. They bring love, joy, companionship – not to mention the proven physical and mental health benefits. Pets in happy homes is a win-win for the pet and the owner. But not all pets have the care they need, with millions of dogs and cats living on the streets or in shelters. In fact, 1 in 3 pets are homeless. That’s why Mars set out, alongside leading animal welfare experts, to understand how so many pets end up homeless. And today, we’re releasing open-source data to not only be smarter with the actions we take, but to help others take action too. Moving from treating the symptoms to really solving the root causes. It's a complex challenge, but understanding the contributing factors is a crucial step so that targeted action can follow. We’re marking the launch with a $500,000 donation to Humane Society International to help fund work informed by the data to support thousands of pets in need. Thanks to the external partners and Associates leading this work and constantly striving towards: A Better World for Pets. You can read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/edwJ8XZq. #abetterworldforpets #stateofpethomelessness #proudlymars

Losing a pet is heartbreaking. The first Saturday in April is Every Day is Tag Day, a nationwide effort created by American Humane to prevent the heartache of losing a pet. DID YOU KNOW? Approximately 10 million companion animals wander away from home each year. Millions end up in shelters. Tragically, only 15% of dogs and 2% of cats in shelters shelters without ID tags or microchips are reunited with their guardians. To Make Every Day Tag Day: > Make sure your pet always wears a collar with a current ID tag, rabies tag, and city/county license. Include a contact name, address, and daytime and evening phone numbers on their ID tag. > Keep your pet’s licenses, ID tag, and microchip current. Make sure to update the tag if you change your address or phone numbers. Microchips add an additional layer of protection in the event the pet's collar and/or tag fall off or are removed. > When moving or traveling, place a temporary tag on your pet with the phone number of someone who knows how to reach you. > Remember that even indoor pets need tags. Many strays in shelters are indoor pets who escaped and got lost. @tailsofhopewpa @americanhumane #MakeEveryDayTagDay #EveryDayIsTagDay #pets #cats #dogs #companionanimal #shelter #tag #license #rabies #microchip #petsafety #petsarefamily #nonprofit #community #love

Pet homelessness is a complicated issue, and one historically hindered by a lack of clear, cohesive data to direct resources and guide solutions. The State of Pet Homelessness Project—a global initiative spearheaded by Mars and leading animal welfare organizations—is addressing that challenge head on. Through expert interviews, public surveys and data from local sources, the project paints a detailed picture of pet homelessness across 20 countries. Check out the post below to see the results of the State of Pet Homelessness Project and how they can drive targeted actions to help prevent unwanted pets, ensure pets get the care they need, and keep pets in homes with the people who love them. #StateOfPetHomelessness #ABetterWorldForPets #ProudlyMars
We love pets, and across the world, millions of happy pets are part of loving families and communities. But some pets aren’t so lucky. In fact, millions of dogs and cats are homeless, either roaming the streets or living in shelters. It’s why we, in partnership with leading animal welfare organizations, are launching the State of Pet Homelessness Project: the largest ever study into the scale and causes of pet homelessness, bringing data and insight that will help treat the root causes, not just the symptoms. “For every two dogs or cats that are part of a family or community in the countries surveyed, there is another one that is not so fortunate”, says our Global President Mars Petcare Loic Moutault. “That is not the world we want for pets, and we hope this data will help drive targeted interventions to give more pets the life they deserve.” Get to know more about this open-source data project by visiting https://lnkd.in/edwJ8XZq. #ABetterWorldForPets #StateOfPetHomelessnessProject

Global VP of Packaging Sustainability and Chief Circularity Officer @ Mars | Sustainability Intrapraneur | Board Member| Trash Talker
The data showing that 1 out of 3 pets are homeless hit me especially hard this week as my sweet baby rescue pup just crossed the rainbow bridge. In the rescue community, there is a common phrase "who rescued who," which was infinitely true in my case with how much love and joy my little guy brought to us. He was rescued off of the streets of LA (which had a high kill rate at the time due to the number of pets in shelters) and transported by rescue organizations to Seattle, where I met him at an adoption fair. It is easy to get discouraged when working in animal rescue, but being able to understand the facts and data to address pet homelessness at a large scale is immensely motivating. The three main causes are: 1) Pet–friendly housing limitations: Almost 1 in 5 people that are considering giving up their cat or dog in the near future say it’s because they are moving and cannot take their pet with them. And almost half of those who have re-homed a pet in the past did so for that reason. 2) Pet ownership challenges: Globally, around 15% of pet owners are considering giving up their pet in the next 12 months. A number of factors contribute, with personal health and fitness challenges to still be able to care for a pet being the number one reason globally, housing related factors coming second, and time pressure to be able to look after a pet being the third most common reason. Other factors like behavior, family allergies and cost also appear in the data. 3) Stemming homeless population increase: A surprising number of people lose their pet, and often don’t get reunited. Almost half of people surveyed said they had lost a pet in the past, and of those almost 60% were never found by their owners. Globally, pet owners report that only ~50% of owned dogs and ~60% of cats are sterilized, meaning the remainder, if allowed to reproduce unchecked, can result in unplanned litters, exacerbating the problem. Understanding the causes helps us address the causes vs. the symptoms. Very proud that Mars is engaged and leading this work (along with the amazing work that Mars Veterinary Health does for the pets once you have them). 🐕 🐶 🐈 ❤️ #proudlymars #adoptdontshop #whorescuedwho #doggyrescue #animalrescue #abetterworldforpets #pawsitiveinfluence Humane Society International Angels Among Us Pet Rescue
