Right now, the ADOH biweekly homeless-to-housing roundtable hosted by CEO Joan Serviss is underway. Every 2 weeks, homelessness services providers statewide gather and provide updates on the successes and challenges of their important work. Today, the City of Tempe reported that their summer Point in Time count of the city's homeless population will take place on July 17 and volunteers are welcome.

Today is 'National Insurance Awareness Day.' ADOH CEO Joan Serviss is reminding all Arizona homeowners to be sure they have adequate insurance coverage on their home. Review your home insurance policy coverages and take steps to prevent being underinsured if catastrophe strikes.

Today we celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for Villas on McQueen near McQueen Road and Chandler Boulevard. 🎉 This development marks a significant milestone as Chandler's first public housing project converted through HUD's Rental Assistance Demonstration program. Villas on McQueen represents our commitment to providing sustainable, high-quality housing options for our low- and moderate-income residents. Our City Council unanimously approved this 157-unit project to serve seniors, veterans, individuals with developmental disabilities and families. We're incredibly grateful for our community partners who have worked with our team on this project for several years now. Counting down to the grand opening! Big Congratulations to the City of Chandler, Arizona, and Gorman & Company on today's groundbreaking of "Villas on McQueen" on McQueen Road near Chandler Blvd. in Chandler. ADOH funded $7 million toward this affordable housing community (including $4 million in State Housing Trust Fund dollars) with 157 new homes for families, individuals, elderly, and disabled. Villas on McQueen is scheduled to open for new renters making < 60% of the area median income in December 2025. ADOH Assistant Deputy Keon Montgomery spoke at today's event about how this project benefited from the historic 2024 investment into the State Housing Trust Fund thanks to Governor Katie Hobbs.

Our Arizona Department of Housing Rental team completed our donation efforts today for the Keys to Change ThirstAid Campaign! With our donations, we put together Heat Relief Kits that will be distributed throughout the valley to those experiencing homelessness. In Maricopa County, summer heat is deadly. A preliminary report from Maricopa Association of Governments notes that 645 people passed from heat-related illness in 2023 — a 52% increase from 2022. Many of these deaths occurred in the neighborhood surrounding Key Campus, as the population of people experiencing homelessness has increased 46% since 2019. Heat relief efforts and supplies save lives! Thank you Christina Fankhauser, CFRE for speaking to our team today & everything your team does for the community!
ADOH has been conducting a heat relief donation effort in support of Keys to Change and their annual ThirstAid campaign. Today, CEO Joan Serviss and members of our staff put together 50 ‘heat relief kits’ with the donated items including water, sunscreen, chapstick, sunglasses, socks, Aloe Vera gel, and electrolyte packets for Keys to Change to distribute across the valley.
