We are excited to welcome John Baik, Lauren Kunkel, and Jennifer Dolan to the Areté family! John Baik will be joining us as a Vice President. He has experience in restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate finance. His previous role as SVP at AlixPartners involved strategic review, business planning, liquidity management, investor due diligence, and supply chain management mandates in refinancing and restructuring engagements, making him a valuable addition to our team. Lauren will join us as an Associate with experience in accounting and finance. She was previously an Associate within the Business Services and Education Group at Lazard, where she focused on comprehensive buy-side and sell-side advisory services. Jennifer, our new Management Intern, recently graduated from Trinity College Dublin with an MSc in Management and a BA in Sociology and French. Her eagerness to learn and contribute to the team’s success is a testament to our commitment to growth and excellence. We are excited to welcome Mehyar Afkari to the Arete Team! Prior to joining Arete, Mehyar was an Analyst at Verition Fund Management, focusing on stressed, distressed, and special situation investments in the US and Europe. Prior to Verition, Mehyar served as an Associate at Carl Marks in New York, where he was responsible for M&A, Chapter 11 reorganizations, out-of-court restructurings, and corporate finance transactions for a range of public and private global clients. Before joining Carl Marks, Mehyar served as an Investment Analyst at a Single-Family Office, where he focused on the analysis and execution of healthy and distressed investment opportunities and the strategic planning of existing portfolio companies, such as the 1,200-unit global franchise Edible Arrangements. Before that, he served as an Investment Banking Analyst at FT Partners. Mahyar holds a BS in Finance and Art History from NYU's Stern School of Business.

David joins Arete Capital Partners as a Principal with over twenty-five years of experience investing, leading turnaround, restructuring, and interim management engagements, providing investment banking services, and advising early-stage technology companies on their growth plans.  He has demonstrated success as a growth equity investor/advisor, which augments his financial and operational leadership capabilities developed during his experience leading turnaround & restructuring engagements.
