Artist community offering residencies & community engagement programs at Tower View, the historic home of A.P. Anderson.

About us

Supporting art & ideas since 1995. Artist community offering residencies & community engagement programs at Tower View, the historic home of A.P. Anderson. Named one of the top artistic destination points in the upper Mississippi River region by National Geographic Traveler Magazine, the Anderson Center serves the artistic community and the citizens of Minnesota through artistic leadership, program development, and support. A registered historic landmark, the Anderson Center's mission is to uphold the unique wealth of the arts in the region; to develop, foster, and promote the creation of works by artists of all kinds; and to provide leadership and services that help to ensure a strong, healthy arts community and a greater recognition of the value of the arts in society. The Center does this by: • Providing retreats of two to four weeks duration to enable artists, writers, and scholars to advance or complete work in progress. • Participating in the planning and presenting of collaborative public programs with other cultural entities in Red Wing and elsewhere. • Restoring and preserving the buildings and grounds of the historic Tower View estate. Anderson is an affiliated member of the National Alliance of Artists' Communities and RES ARTIS: International Association of Residential Arts Centres and the organization serves creative people of all kinds - writers, poets, visual artists, sculptors, composers, dancers, archaeologists, anthropologists, scholars, and others. The interdisciplinary nature of the Center inspires creative dialogue among the disciplines and places the Center at the forefront of thoughtful exchange. In addition to 20 on-site artist studios, the Center offers a black-and-white equipped dark room, an outdoor kiln, glass blowing studio, blacksmith shop, printmaking facilities, and a press-in-residence.

I have some news to share, and it’s that my time with Anderson Center at Tower View is coming to end on September 29. I am excited about what’s next, but I am also incredibly grateful for the last three & a half years at Anderson Center. Sincere thanks to Stephanie Rogers, the board of directors and all the passionate colleagues & stakeholders there for their tremendous support, kindness, and fellowship. Tower View is a special place that impacts all who pass through it. It’s been a rewarding experience to help nurture creativity in such a inspiring artist community. I’m proud of all that’s been accomplished since I arrived in March of 2020. I feel honored to have stewarded Anderson Center’s signature artist residency and been a part of Tower View’s incredible legacy. More about what’s next soon, but I am happy to share that my family & I will continue to live in Red Wing and be a part of the amazing community here. And of course, I look forward to watching the Anderson Center continue to evolve, grow and thrive! My former role is being replaced with a somewhat different position.
