Meet Chesvic Hilary, Senior Back-End Engineer and Technical Writer, based in Lagos, Nigeria. Chesvic’s career in tech started with a chance encounter at the local business center while photocopying documents for college. At the time, personal computers were not common, and he took notice that the manager was doing a great job attending to his needs and those of her staff, all while typing. When he peeked at her screen, he saw she wasn’t typing words, but code! She agreed to take him on as an intern and for the next year, he found a natural ability in HTML and became proficient in several programs. With his newfound love of tech, he graduated with a degree in computer science. Today Chesvic is a member of the Andela Talent Cloud, and a contributing writer to our blog though our Writers Room program. “I never thought I’d get the chance to get paid for my writing, but I’ve had several articles published with Andela so far, from topics like Soap, Node.js and even how to manage virtual meetings.“ “My wife is my best and fiercest writing critic. We’re happily married, with two young children, a boy, and a girl. She reviews every article I write, and I watch carefully as she reads, knowing within seconds if it’s trash or treasure.“ “Working for Andela’s clients improved the quality of my life by rightfully compensating my efforts and dedication. My horizons have been broadened and my soft skills have improved. I’m proud to call myself a global citizen, with the ability to work and adjust between time zones depending on the client location around the world.” “In the next few years, my goal is to upskill and work my way into a Software Architect role, while developing my writing and getting more articles published. Whatever knowledge I gain, I want to be able to share that with other people. And I know that as I progress, Andela will be there to support me.” #HumansOfAndela #TechTalent

Chief Data and Analytics Officer at ISG, Kathy Rudy began her career unexpectedly when she was fired from her college job at a market research company. However, her managers recognized her potential and helped her secure interviews in Chicago, setting the stage for her future success. Her next role at a temporary service exposed her to various industries, igniting her passion for learning new software and paving her way into technology. After having twin daughters, Kathy freelanced until a fortuitous call brought her back to the workforce full-time. As she climbed the career ladder, Kathy embraced the responsibility of nurturing the next generation of professionals. Being a woman in a male-dominated field, she embarked on a journey of self-discovery, building confidence, and recognizing her unique value. In job interviews, Kathy always asks candidates: “Are you happy with your GPA?” - a question that likely reveals much about a person’s self-reflection and ambition. Meet Bridget Mendoza, Software Engineer and Team Leader, based in Kampala, Uganda. Bridget’s first introduction to tech was with Super Mario Kart as a teen but it wasn’t the experience of playing that drew her in–it was the science. In the years that followed, her interest in science and technology grew and she was encouraged to lead the high school robotics club. “To have someone who believed in me, providing the guidance and mentorship I needed to take on this role, was inspiring. Because of her positivity and encouragement, I had the strength to jump in with both feet. I loved robot assembly, programming, and, most of all, helping to motivate our team to succeed in competitions. It was a life-affirming experience.” Bridget joined Andela in 2018 as a tutor for the Women in Tech Leadership Boot Camp. Throughout her studies and subsequent career, Bridget has developed innovative solutions to benefit society, particularly women. By designing female healthcare apps and mentoring female technologists, Bridget has made a significant impact increasing female visibility in tech. In 2019, she joined a leading Andela client and has grown her career within this company from working as a software engineer to leading technical teams across the organization. #HumansOfAndela #WomenInTech
