Happy Juneteenth!   Although not federally recognized until 2021, Juneteenth has been celebrated for over a century as America's second Independence Day. It commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union soldiers arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas bringing with them the news that slavery had been abolished.   Whether you have participated in Juneteenth festivities your whole life, or are a more recent observer, we hope you get some time today to celebrate freedom, to fire up the grill and enjoy a cookout with family and friends, and to honor the history and sacrifice at the center of it all.

Would you run 30 kilometers while carrying a rucksack loaded with 25lbs of dry food goods to help support homeless veterans in need? Well, that’s exactly what AmeriGas employees Tom McMahon and Brian Byerly did in Castle Rock Colorado last month! With a time of 4 hours and 16 minutes, these two UGI VET committee representatives finished in the top 10 for the civilian/veteran category and ended up raising over $3,600 for the Special Forces Foundation to support homeless veterans! Congratulations guys! You make us proud every single day 😊

Springing from the ashes of the Civil War, Memorial Day is a day of gratitude and remembrance for the men and women who have given their all to preserve our country and its freedoms. While many use this day to gather with friends and family around the barbeque, let us all remember to take a moment to bow our heads and give thanks to the service men and women who died for this country and to salute the flag they proudly served.

At AmeriGas, Safety is a core value and recently we have seen an increase in concerns related to potentially leaking propane grill cylinders. Ahead of Memorial Day weekend, we want to remind consumers about propane grill cylinder safety. First, a cylinder disconnected from an appliance should never leak when the valve is either in the open or closed position. If you smell gas when the cylinder is not attached to an appliance, and it is safe to do so, turn off the valve by turning it to the right (clockwise). If you are unable to do so, immediately leave the area and call 911 or your local fire department. Additionally, before you use your tank for the first time (or the first time in a while), perform a leak check on the cylinder and appliance. Ensure the valve is always closed before connecting or disconnecting the cylinder to an appliance. Lastly, never store or place a cylinder indoors or in an enclosed area such as a basement, garage, shed, or tent. Never store or place a propane cylinder in an area of excessive heat (120 degrees or higher) or near a stove, fireplace, or other heat source. For more propane grill cylinder safety information, visit https://lnkd.in/efH3gTqw.
