Wine Country in The Rose City.

About us

Amaterra (meaning a love of the earth) began as a concept rooted in a deep appreciation of family, friendship, the natural splendor of the Pacific Northwest, and labors of love. Located just three miles from downtown Portland, Amaterra will be a world-class venue for wine, cuisine, special events, and entertainment that epitomizes the rural + urban = rurban setting. Our plans include a premium winery membership experience that members can enjoy just minutes from home or work. The vision and planning of Amaterra have taken years to achieve. By meeting the demands and desires of Portland wine consumers, Amaterra Winery will provide a luxurious experience just a quick Uber or Lyft ride within the city limits, with a view that overlooks the vineyard and stretches to the Coast Range. Time and friction are no longer a barrier when you want to experience the best in Oregon wine. We craft premium wines in small lots with a handcrafted approach focused on showcasing the terroir of both estate and sourced vineyard locations. These wines are made in a state-of-the- art, gravity-flow facility with a southwesterly view of the world-famous Willamette Valley wine region. Under the Amaterra label are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and traditional-method sparkling wines. Amaterra is a state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery. In use is a unique winemaking process that utilizes bridge cranes to allow one elevation drop to act as a multiple-level winemaking facility. This equipment enables the most gentle handling of fruit and the resulting in-process wine, to maintain the desired structure and delicate aromatics. Once fully opened, we will be pleased to offer memberships to our premier wine club for purchase. Members will receive exclusive perks and experiences, including early product releases, members-only tastings and events, preferential seating in our venues, special wines, and more. Please reach out to us if you would like to be contacted when membership types become available.

Amaterra’s General Manager and Winemaker, Matt Vuylsteke, was a featured tennis player in Oregon Wine Press’ cover story for their July Magazine. Spurred by meeting James Suckling, author Sarah Murdoch discovered tennis as a shared common interest alongside wine and began to notice many parallels between the two. Searching through her connections in the wine industry, she found and interviewed winemakers throughout the valley who shared that same love for tennis. Last night, we were recognized as the Best Venue in Oregon 2024 by Oregon Wedding Day. To say we are honored is an understatement. Since opening our doors in January 2022, we have hosted hundreds of events, large and small, including baby and birthday celebrations, work events, golden anniversaries, holiday parties, weddings, and more. We are so proud of the event sales team, events staff, and culinary team for making these gatherings come alive and helping make everyone's vision come true. Thank you to all our Club Members who choose to sip, savor, and celebrate with us, the event industry members who chose us for their styled shoots, and Oregon Wedding Day and Iron Diamond Media for this special award. #OregonWeddingVenue #BestVenueinOregon

Morgan White, our Assistant Winemaker, won the Emerging Leader Award at Chemeketa's Annual Barrel Tasting and Awards Ceremony on May 1. Morgan is an alumnus of the Chemeketa Wine Studies program and has worn many hats along her winemaking career: from sommelier to Chemeketa, a harvest in New Zealand, then working at Apolloni before joining the Amaterra team. She cares deeply about her craft and continually innovates and improves processes that allow Amaterra to thoughtfully create the award-winning wines we produce. Congratulations, Morgan! We are so proud of you and deeply appreciate your contribution to our portfolio of Amaterra and 51Weeks Winemaking wines, as well as the winemaking community at large. #amaterrawines #chemeketa #winemaking

Our General Manager & Winemaker Matt Vuylsteke led journalist Tamara Turner from Wine Business Monthly through our winery recently, explaining the state-of-the-art mechanics and innovative ways we craft our wines. Gravity-flow winemaking provides a gentle process of handling the grapes, using nature's force rather than pumps, hoses, or augers. Handling the grapes carefully allows their flavors to shine brightly, come across clearly, and not become bruised or disturbed. The groundbreaking approach to our gravity-flow winery Tamara captured explains why the bridge crane allows for the process to be completed on only two building stories rather than the multiple ones that a traditional winery would use. By using the most of what we have and striving for efficiency and sustainability at every step, we further encompass our slogan, "For the Love of the Earth." Happy Earth Day! Amaterra means "for the love of the Earth," and we have always operated with sustainability in mind. Check out this clip of Amaterra General Manager and Winemaker Matt Vuylsteke to see how we're keeping things green year-round. You can also help us give back through our "Dollar a Duo" promotion in our tasting room/restaurant until the end of April. Purchase a Rosé Duo to comparatively taste our two newly released rosés, and a dollar will be donated to the Treekeepers of Washington County nonprofit. This foundation helps keep the tree canopy in Washington county alive and well-maintained by educating residents on the importance of preserving our local trees. #earthday #amaterra #amaterrawines #portlandwinery #travelportland #tastingroom #winekeg #sustainablewinemaking #treekeepers #treekeeperswc
