  • "Meet the Team!" This week, we're highlighting Jennifer McCallay. Join us in the fight to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/etkMyS8u 1. How long have you worked at the Alzheimer’s Association and what is your role? I have been with the Alzheimer's Association for almost 9 years. I started with the Greater PA Chapter as the Administrative Assistant in our Pittsburgh office and have been in finance for the last 5 years serving our Region as the Senior Staff Accountant. 2. What motivated you to join the Alzheimer's Association? I have always wanted to work in the non-profit sector and I was recently out of college, looking for just that. I really knew nothing about this devastating disease until I joined the Association. Seeing first hand how impactful Alzheimer's and dementia is to families and their caregivers, seeing how much hope we all have for a cure and how much we won't stop until we find one, that's my motivation. 3. What do you enjoy most about working for the Alzheimer’s Association? I could never name just one thing that I enjoy about the Association and my job. Our management, our coworkers, our drive for a fight, our passion, every single thing is incredible. They say it's not really a job if you love what you do, right? 4. Can you share a story of a person or event that deeply impacted you in your role? Being on the back end of it all here, I don't get out into the community often but when I do, it's such an honor to connect with our community and those that we fight together with. I'd say there are two significant events that have impacted me while I have been at the Association. The first was the day we found out the FDA approved aducanamab for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The momentum that built for the team and our community was nothing I've ever seen before, it was such an incredible moment that I am so proud I was a part of. It was making history. The second event that is so impactful is the Walk to End Alzheimer's and the flower ceremony. Every Walk I attend, I cry during the flower ceremony and when a child holds up a white flower. That white flower symbolizes so much hope and so much fight for this disease and the future. 5. In what ways do you feel supported by your colleagues and the organization as a whole? I was the Administrative Assistant for 3 years when the finance position opened up for our Region. My coworkers built me up and gave me all the encouragement to apply for the position. If it wasn't for them and our management team, I can say that I would not be the person I am today. The management at the Association goes above and beyond and supports you in your every move. I have been here for almost a decade and have experienced major milestones in life: getting married, having a baby and losing a parent. Every single step of the way I have had support from my coworkers and management. We are one big team here and we love what we do. Continue reading in the comments!

  • In a large research study, reported for the first time at #AAIC24 and partially funded by the Association, blood tests 🩸 did a better job of accurately detecting Alzheimer's than primary care doctors and specialists who were using traditional diagnostic methods. The test was around 90% accurate in identifying Alzheimer’s in patients with cognitive symptoms at primary care and specialized memory care clinics compared to 63% and 73% accuracy when not using the test. Why this is exciting: Highly accurate blood tests could drastically reduce the time it takes to get a diagnosis, as well as accelerate access to new treatments

  • The Longest Day Spotlight: Ginny's Carniv-ALZ Event On June 30, Ginny's Carniv-ALZ offered an afternoon of excitement and joy at Ginny's Neighborhood Pizza Joint in Murrysville. The event brought together the community for a day filled with fun and meaningful activities to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease. The event featured a variety of attractions, including carnival games, a petting zoo, a dunk tank, and a caricature artist. We would like to thank Chris Juricich, Brittany Setaro, and Sheila DiCroce, the event committee, Gateway Hospice, Independence Court of Monroeville, and Ginny's Neighborhood Pizza Joint.
