An inspiring day where we connected with fellow ocean advocates and innovators in our community, raising awareness for our magnificent coastal wildlife and the preservation of our oceans. It was a delight featuring some of our Wildlife Jewels® Seabirds, designs inspired by them, sharing their stories, and educating our community about the remarkable innovations they inspire, while highlighting the pressing human-caused threats they face and the urgency of preserving our oceans and our precious wildlife. Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Change The Tune and their summer students for an incredible blue economy field trip! The students spent the day exploring different types of kelp, some of which grow right off our wharf. They even got to drive underwater robots equipped with cameras to see the kelp up close! 🤖📸 The day wrapped up with two exciting activities: 1. Ryan Harris from EcobyRy guided the students in shredding and upcycling water bottles into new items like plates or planters. ♻️ 2. Taylor Griffith, AltaSea's artist in residence, showed the students how to press kelp into canvases to create beautiful, hangable art. 🎨 These field trips are essential for students to discover the many opportunities within the blue economy.
