Sharing design's role in shaping our future

About us

AFO supports Oregon’s quality of life and creates awareness of our designed environment through education, engagement and inspiration. We believe that architecture and the built environment can address our most challenging problems, and that Oregon is stronger when more people from diverse backgrounds participate in designing the places that shape our world.  We believe that design should consider diverse points of view, and reflect these views, in a built environment that provides access and equity for all. These firms rose to the top this past school year when it came to supporting their employees during countless Architects in Schools volunteer hours. Volunteered time is essential to the success of AiS. It’s how we promote creativity, critical thinking, and growth mindset in Oregon youth. THANK YOU to our All-Star Firms and to all of our volunteers and supporters who ensure that thousands of students receive free design education every year. Your time and dedication means everything! Applications for the 2024-25 Architects in Schools season open next week! Visit our website to learn more. #architectsinschools #allstars #thankyou #volunteerappreciation

  • Breaking news! Beginning in 2025, Van Evera Bailey Fellows will now receive $50,000 for their pursuits in advancing the design and building profession, a 100% increase in Fellowship funding. This increase should allow for more impact when it comes to growing costs of materials, labor, living, and more. Additionally, this increase ensures that the funding awarded is more impactful for individuals across economic backgrounds and lived experiences without requiring additional applicant privilege. Thank you to the Van Evera Bailey Fund at the Oregon Community Foundation for making this possible. The Van Evera Bailey Fellowship is an opportunity for professionals in the field to examine not only what they think, but how they think. Applications open in August and recipients will be announced in December. Please join us in celebrating this enormous increase in impact for today’s leaders in the designed and built industry!
