Advocate Sherman Hospital’s paramedic program celebrated its 50th anniversary with a class of 20 graduates on June 27. The history of paramedic education at Advocate Sherman is nearly as long as the paramedic profession itself. Over the past five decades, Advocate Sherman has grown and evolved its paramedic program, embracing advanced technologies and innovative treatments to meet the changing needs of its patients. When the program started it was just five months long, now it’s 11 months long and includes 500 classroom hours, 500 clinical hours and ride along time with the local fire departments. The program has trained approximately 1,200 paramedics since 1974. Learn more with The Daily Herald: https://bit.ly/4eTP41A

Advocate Condell Medical Center recently celebrated the opening of their milk depot in partnership with Mothers' Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes. The milk depot offers families a place to donate their excess milk to help babies in need. Donated human milk is an important part of care for babies in Advocate Health Care’s NICUs and special care nurseries as well as for babies in the postpartum units when parents want to breastfeed their babies, but are struggling with low supply, poor latch, or other challenges. Donated human milk provides numerous health benefits in the absence of the mother’s milk, including infection-fighting factors, active growth and development hormones, improved digestion and ideal nutrition. Milk donations are pasteurized and tested at the Milk Bank WGL’s facility to ensure safety and quality. Jessica Neumeier of Libertyville donated 700 ounces of frozen excess milk the grand opening event. “Donating breastmilk is a great way to support other parents. It is convenient for me to donate at the Condell milk depot since I am already coming to the hospital once a week for the parent support group,” shared Neumeier.
