We loved hosting patient, physician, and innovator advocates in preparation for their meetings on Capitol Hill this week to educate lawmakers about the incredible value Focused Ultrasound technologies bring to patients. We have a great partnership with the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, and believe it’s vital members of Congress and their staff hear directly from those benefiting, administering, and developing innovative #medtech. AdvaMed thanks the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, Profound Medical Inc., and Acoustiic, Inc. for attending as well as our colleagues at INSIGHTEC, Sonablate Corp., and Focal One for their support in making this patient fly-in a success.

Findings by the American Heart Association reveal an urgent need for a better understanding of women's cardiovascular health. Fortunately, the FDA's draft guidance, "Diversity Action Plans to Improve Enrollment of Participants from Underrepresented Populations in Clinical Studies," aims to enhance clinical study diversity. The findings on women’s cardiovascular health should be a call to action to enlist more women of different ethnicities, ages, economic circumstances, and life stages in clinical trials of medical devices that could benefit them. This AdvaMed #DeviceofTheWeek, we spotlight DermaSensor, Inc., a handheld, AI-powered device that revolutionizes the assessment of suspicious skin lesions. After earning Breakthrough Device Designation from the FDA in 2021, it received FDA clearance in January 2024, which is based on studies that showed the device had a 96% sensitivity in detecting all three common skin cancers. The algorithm analyzes the spectral recordings of suspicious skin lesions and provides an immediate, objective result to physicians to consider in their referral decision. Learn more about how DermaSensor, Inc. is transforming skin care assessment for patients in a recent article in Nature. https://bit.ly/3Whzkyl

    President and CEO, AdvaMed

As we gather this week with our family and friends to celebrate #IndependenceDay and what it means for our country and to each of us individually, I thought you might be interested in the most recent episode of the Medtech POV podcast. I sat down with MedTechVets President and Executive Director Steve Mapa—a veteran himself—to talk about the incredible work this organization is doing to support our veterans as they find meaningful careers in the medtech industry.   AdvaMed is proud to support MedTechVets, and here’s why: The support they give to the men and women who have served our country is working. The mentorship program, the networking and job search lessons, and the interview prep truly do lead to successful careers for veterans who participate. The numbers back that up: Steve said 95% of veterans who complete the program land a job in medtech—and 84% of them stay in those careers for the long term. Those are remarkable placement and retention rates. And the work doesn’t stop there—the organization is also looking to the future and finding new ways to give back to these servicemembers.   We owe our veterans a debt that can never truly be repaid. They are literally the reason we remain a free country, able to celebrate the 4th of July in peace, surrounded by family and friends. I am confident that the vision and tenacity of MedTechVets founder Michael Minogue and leaders like Steve will take the organization to new heights. We’re proud at AdvaMed to support them however we can.    I enjoyed this conversation on the podcast, and I hope you do too: https://lnkd.in/eWHr-SKB

AdvaMed had the privilege of hosting legislative tours with BioUtah at the Stryker and bioMérieux facilities in Salt Lake City. The tours were a huge success, with eight lawmakers across the state joining us. Participants had the opportunity to tour the manufacturing floors, witness product demonstrations, and explore the learning labs. We are proud to have Kelvyn Cullimore with BioUtah serving as our SMTA chair this year.
