What do the #Olympics have to do with health equity? Last year, Black American Olympic sprinter Tori Bowie passed away at the young age of 32. Despite being an elite athlete, Bowie ultimately succumbed to childbirth complications including eclampsia. Unfortunately, this tragedy is all too familiar to Black mothers across the country: ✴️ Maternal mortality for Black mothers is over 2.5x higher than the rate for White mothers. ✴️ Rates of preeclampsia are 60% higher among Black women than their White counterparts. ✴️ Black newborns are 2.4x more likely to die than White newborns. As we all celebrate the start of the Olympics tomorrow, we at Acclinate remember Tori Bowie and are reminded of how much more work needs to be done to level the playing field and save lives. Check out our latest blog for a deeper dive on the importance of #healthequity, the impact of disparities on communities of color, and how industry-leading organizations can help close the gap. https://bit.ly/4de5PTn

The AL CEAL Rapid Response Network is a powerful testament to the power of community in combating public health challenges. So great to collaborate with NIH Community Engagement Alliance (CEAL), United Way of Madison County, the ALABAMA CONFERENCE OF BLACK MAYORS, the Alabama NAACP and the BLACK BELT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION to reach community members in our home state! Special thanks to UAB Minority Health & Health Equity Research Center for partnering with us to bring this to life 🙌🏾 https://lnkd.in/epAsaekj

“Ultimately, what we're going to find is that those sponsors that are making the investment to make sure they have adequate representation in their trials, in their data… are going to win overall.” For more of Del Smith, PhD’s thoughts, check out: https://lnkd.in/euNnwp8V #weekendread #diversityinresearch #clinicaltrials #FDAupdate

For the big events, we roll deep! Today, we tapped into our network of local leaders and partners in Philly to connect communities of color to the great resources of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation - MMRF. Black people make up 20% of multiple myeloma cases annually. Thanks to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation - MMRF for trusting us to make sure they’re #nowincluded 🙌🏾
